C section - Do you have to plan?

If you choose to have a c section do you have a guaranteed date or can you still go into labour naturally but then have a c section for the birth?

You generally have a planned date, unless you go into labour first in which case they will do a section anyway.

You can't just request one on the day really, unless there is an emergency
