Can’t burp so I vomit?

This is such a weird one. I’m currently 12W5D pregnant. I have had terrible sickness throughout and have been given medication for this, which I take as and when required.
Unfortunately I’ve never had the ability to be able to burp, and I’ve found during pregnancy I get a lot of trapped wind that needs to be burped out. Because I can’t burp, I end up vomiting, but my vomit is just lots of burping (as well as whatever I’ve eaten). In my head I think if I could just burp, I wouldn’t vomit.
Any suggestions? A friend suggested gripe water. But not sure. Gaviscon and Rennie don’t do much either.

No advice but I'm the same, I've never been able to burp and it's a pain in the arse!

Oohhh I'm the same. If you google you'll find a fair bit about it but not really any cure.

It's soooo frustrating and when i was ill recently i was being sick because of it too :(

You're best bet is to try to limit things that exasperate it and pass gas in other ways 😄

Thank you for sharing this article. I’ve been dealing with this every single day for nearly half my life. The gurgling is so embarrassing and the whole thing really gets me down. That’s the first time I’ve read anything that has described my symptoms exactly. It makes such a difference to know there are more people like me out there.

Oh I really feel your pain but have no advice as I was exactly the same, I could never burp and had all the symptoms listed in that article and it’s absolutely horrible.

But weirdly, as my first pregnancy progressed I suddenly started to be able to burp after 25+ years of not being able to! It came from nowhere at about 30 weeks and I’ve never lost the ability.

I’m not sure I’d recommend trying gripe water as you’ll just feel more gassy without being able to get the burp out still. Unfortunately I don’t think there is much that will help, other than eating little & often maybe? but hopefully it gets better as your pregnancy progresses x

I had this through my pregnancy. I can’t burp at all (I have a phobia of being sick so not sure if this contributes to it) but I had so much trapped wind and felt like I needed to burp but couldn’t. Instead my throat would make a weird croaky noise all the time and I would eventually gag over and over again until the feeling passed. I was never sick but the gagging was horrid. I remember mine was worse around weeks 13-18ish then subsided.

Adding this a couple of years late, but I would really recommend those who suffer from not being able to burp to look up 'Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction' or RCPD. I've made the discovery myself recently and want to spread that word!

I hope you are all doing well!
