Third Trimester Weight Gain

I have a quick question about third trimester weight gain. I was about 8st to begin with and am now 33 weeks, and have put on just under a stone. I have read/heard to expect a weight gain of about 1lb a week in this trimester but don't seem to be gaining anything like that! Should I be worried? I am eating healthily, never let myself go hungry, but wouldn't say I'm eating necessarily a lot more than usual. Is this OK? Thanks!!

From what I've been told it really is quite irrelevant what you weigh and most midwives won't check it at all because it is such an unreliable measure.

It is tough though because you will always find something to worry about and if other people comment then however well meaning it can be a bit upsetting.

I am currently 30 weeks with my first and have put on about a stone and a quarter (I was about 9.5 to start with). I still don't look obviously pregnant - just a bit fatter than normal which is something I get a lot of comments about and it is hard not to worry that it might mean the baby isn't growing properly.

Midwife wasn't worried 2 weeks ago but did suggest that if I was concerned she could arrange for me to have an extra scan to put my mind at rest - might be worth discussing with your mw?

On the plus side - none of the usual 3rd trimester woes are a problem: sore back, exhaustion, feeling like a whale so I am trying to focus on that! Oh, and mw did compliment me on my strong stomach muscles which I enjoyed - probably the last time that anyone will say that!

Anyway, babies come in a very wide range of weights and sizes so it shouldn't be too surprising that pregnant ladies do too...

i would love to only pu a stone on, my auntie never put on more then a stone with her 3 ds. as long as your eating well i wouldnt worry.

I have refused to weigh myself at all so I can't freak out about it. I started at 10 stones and haven't got a clue what I am now - though I do look like I have stuffed a basketball up my top and I am only 24 weeks!

I think you're really lucky - have put on nearly two and a half stone already and am only 30 weeks!

Seriously though, don't worry too much...every woman carries differently and babies come in all different sizes. As long as you're feeling healthy and eating well you'll be fine

Sounds great. I put on 21/2 stone in my third trimester! It was very hard to shift afterwards

As long as you are healthy and baby is growing OK I dont see the problem. I am 26 weeks and have out on about 8lbs so far. I must have lost some of my own weight because my wedding ring fell off today! Just the way some people are. I find although I eat I am not that interested so I have been taking a multi vit tab just in case. I out on 1.5 stone with DD1 so think I may be about the same this time. DD was 8.5lbs so obviously didnt harm her!
