Hi guys. I'm currently 9w 5d. Had a scan yesterday and its looking good. Thing is, I've only gained like 1-1.5lb? I started out at 4'11 and 7st 3/4 so pretty tiny. I'm so scared baby isn't growing enough Sad. I know the guidelines say this is normal but I'm worried. I did lose my appetite initially so I'm hoping that's the reason and the weight will come on. I'm quite bloated, but the number on the scale hasnt really changed?

Any other slim mamas gain little to no weight at this point?? Just praying that baby is growing properly .

Hey @Missnicolinda96 if everything was ok in your scan then you have nothing to worry about. I will be 19 weeks tomorrow & have hardly put on any weight (around 1 kg). I was worried about it but the midwife said not to as it's quite normal for some women to put on weight quite later on in the pregnancy.

You aren't really supposed to gain much weight if any in the first trimester. Your fine.

DigOlBick · 01/11/2021 16:14

I just gave birth to a 10 pound baby and I weighed the same the day I gave birth as the day I got pregnant. You’re only 9 weeks

I lost a small amount of weight in the first trimester. I wasn’t ill and did eat but didn’t gain weight, just looked a bit bloated in the evenings. Baby grew normally throughout and born two days early at 7lbs something. I’m also not very big like you.

GinnyBee · 01/11/2021 16:26

Lots of people even lose weight in first trimester if they have bad sickness! Nothing to worry about, you're only supposed to put on 1-5lbs anyway so you're on track! :)

Moominmiss · 01/11/2021 16:30

Honestly don’t worry. Everyone’s weight gain is so different and at only nearly 10 weeks I wouldn’t expect much, if any gain.

I only put on 9lb in my entire pregnancy.

Wiltshire90 · 01/11/2021 16:33

I don't think I put on any weight until about week 18! If anything, I lost weight in the first 12 weeks from feeling so sick and tired.

I'm 19+1 and I am still 13lbs lighter than when I found out I was pregnant due to horrific morning sickness, but I've had two scans so far and due my 20 week next week and they've said that baby is perfectly sized, try not to worry, babies take all the nutrients they need and you get what's left over !

I guess there's still time for me to gain a bit in my first tri! I did lose my appetite for a couple of weeks. Plus I have an active job.

Just realised that according to my scales at home I've gained nothing. Maybe half a pound. I know baby is super tiny but I'm terrified it's not growing enough if big enough for almost 10 weeks Sad

It genuinely weighs about the same as a jelly bean at 9/10 weeks. I think the whole uterus is about the size of a orange. No weight gain at this point is normal and completely fine.

N0va · 01/11/2021 17:54

I lost over a stone in first trimester (I have Hyperemesis) I'm now 41+4 and have gained 10kg overall. Baby is fine and healthy (as far as I know from extra scans!) x

justwantobeamum · 01/11/2021 18:09

I'm nearly 17 weeks and still 8lbs down due to HG. The baby is like the size and weight of a gummy bear. People usually put on weight early from "eating for two"

twoofusburningmatches · 01/11/2021 18:55

I don’t think this is anything to worry about. In my first pregnancy I lost weight in the first trimester due to morning sickness. So much so that my BMI dipped below normal by my booking app (but not low enough that there were concerns about my weight). I put on about 10kg in the whole pregnancy. Baby was more than 8lb when born, so plenty big!

RavenclawsRoar · 01/11/2021 18:59

I always lose weight in the first trimester thanks to morning (ha! 24/7) sickness. Honestly don't worry about it. I also have friends who lost their appetite for their whole pregnancies and ended up slimmer than their starting weight at the end! In all cases, the babies have been perfectly healthy.
