Has anybody got pregnant while having the nexplanon rod?

I have had the rod (nexplanon I think its called?) for nearly 2 years. I have a 2 year old and got it inserted when he was about 3 months old. I've never had any major side effects from it before, just an irregular period. Some months I get a period and some months I don't and the volume of bleeding varies. This past week I've not been as hungry and had waves of nausea. I've also got sensitive breasts (which never happens, only early in my previous pregnancy) and I've felt exhausted but I have had a hectic week at work so it could be this making me tired. I know i should take a pregnancy test to make sure but from doing some research online, less that 1 in 100 women fall pregnant while on this contraception so the chances are very slim. I can't seem to find any cases of women falling pregnant while on it. Do you know anybody who has? I'm just curious before I take a pregnancy test. My last period was 3 weeks ago and it was a pretty heavy one.

Hi , no I had it for a year or so I never got pregnant . It drove me wild with mood swings weight gain etc . So I wouldn’t be surprised if your symptoms are just from the hormones.

I’m on my 3rd one and have never conceived on it.

I actually did some research on this a few years back and there were some rare incidences where the nurse though s(he) had put the rod in but it was still stuck in the applicator! So I think they changed the design a little and now they also ask you to prod your arm so you can feel it and confirm it’s in there. So these were all the cases of pregnancies due to the device “failing”.

I had three implants back to back and sometimes I would get symptoms like this and I was never pregnant.

I’m sure I read somewhere that it’s the most reliable and safest form of contraception with the lowest unintended pregnancy rate from it. I’ve had it twice, OP, and had symptoms similar to yours at times. I think it’s highly likely that you’re pregnant.

Urgh! Typing in a hurry - UNLIKELY, not likely!!

I occasionally experienced extremely sentive and tender breasts while on the implant and even had to take pregnancy tests just in case I was pregnant but I never conceived on the implant and I don't personally know anyone who has either

I did, and definitely had it inserted. They think it began to be faulty. I had one for three years, no issues. Never got periods on them. Switched to another, no periods for 2 years and then they began coming back and then regularly. I didn't really think anything of it, just that my period free luck had run out. Turns out I was pregnant. But after all my panicked googling and reading of studies it appears to be very very rare. I'm on the the (un)lucky ones I guess.
