So I'm 17 and just found out I'm pregnant. The father said he wanted it but now isn't sure. What do I do?

Hello

Do you want to have the baby?

HPmagic · 29/10/2021 18:26

Firstly what kind of family support do you have. Do you live with family at all?

I have my mum and brother who had just had a baby I haven't told the rest of my family I don't know how they would react

You have to decide if you would like to go ahead with the pregnancy or not, you cannot let the father make this choice for you.
The decision needs to be yours as it is your body which will be going through pregnancy and birth and all that can come with that you who will ultimately be left looking after the child for the rest of your life if he walks away.
Do you have anyone you trust that you can speak too about it?

I want to have this baby so much but I'm so scared of the price I don't have a job I'm not in college and I would be a single parent. It's a lot at once and I don't know if I'm ready

👋🏼 hey.

So I fell pregnant with my DD at 17 - had her at 18. Now pregnant with number 2 10 years on!

I know how overwhelming this is for you - I've been there. My DD dad wanted me to have an abortion at first - I had no other support but did live at my dads. I decided to keep her and her dad came round to it and is now the best dad ever (even though we split when she was 4).

I based my decision on being a single parent, who would have to drop out of her A Levels. Well, I did drop out but now, 10 years on, I am nearly qualified a qualified lawyer (this baby will push back the schedule by another year), engaged living in a lovely house we have just bought.

My point is: it is possible. Anything is . You need to do what's right for you and baby but please take your time when considering what your heart is saying / head is saying / circumstances are saying.

Inbox is always open for you lovely.

Good luck xx

NinaJames has good advice and hang on to the fact that anything is possible. My friend who is a teacher said her best pupils were teenage mums as they had a reason to do well.
I hope you make the right decision that feels right for you.

As a mum, if you were my daughter I'd give you a cuddle and I'd support you: emotionally and in practical ways. Talk to your mum.

As for having the baby, you say you want it more than anything. What a great start that child will have! To be loved is the most precious gift.

Do you have any close cousins you can speak to OP or friends?

Bigoldmachine · 29/10/2021 19:29

Someone close to me had a baby at 17. Was an absolutely incredible mum. Her son is now grown up and is a lovely young man! She got a job when he was at nursery, has now bought a house and has her “freedom” back at 41. It’s not always a bad idea to have the kids young! She took it all in her stride and it’s been the making of her.

If you really want to have the baby, there will absolutely be a way to make that work. Good luck op
