Preeclampsia

I've seen my midwife today, and she is very concerned that I have preeclampsia (my consultant said a few weeks ago that I was at a higher risk of getting preeclampsia)..

Anyway, I'm only 23 + 1, does anyone have any experiences in this? What was your outcome, what was your treatment?

I'm so nervous! Thanks in advance x

If she is concerned that you do actually have pre-eclampsia you should have been sent immediately to the hospital for monitoring. Its not something you can go home with.

I was diagnosed as having pregnancy related hypertension at 28 weeks at risk for developing pre eclampsia and put on medication.

I then had to go for bp and urine checks every 3 days. A few times I was kept in overnight at the hospital for monitoring. This continued for a few weeks.

At 32 weeks I was admitted to hospital and told that I was in until baby was born and that the aim was to try to get me to at least 35 weeks.

At 33 weeks I was given steriod injections to speed up baby's lung development in case she had to come early.

At 34+2 weeks they decided I was heading for full blown pre eclampsia so I was given a c-section.

Baby was ok. 5lb 5oz. She needed extra oxygen and had to be fed through an ng tube. So she was kept in the special care baby unit.

I was quite poorly for about 5 days. After 5 days though I was able to start breastfeeding her in the baby unit.

I was in hospital for 10 days. She was in for 12 days.

She is now 9 years old and has no problems at all.

Oh my goodness, thank you for your reply! I was told by my consultant around 16 weeks that I was at a high risk of preeclampsia as my mum had it with both of her pregnancies... I'm not scheduled to see my consultant for another 4 weeks.

The midwife I saw yesterday told me to stay at home on bed rest for 2 days and then I need to go to the doctor for more tests, and keep doing this every 2 days - I'm going to call the community midwife and ask for a second opinion.

My blood pressure has gone up by 31, which google says is a sign of preeclampsia too.

I'm so pleased you and your baby ended up ok, thanks again for your reply x
