Bleeding heavily at 13 weeks - please help me to stay positive

I was 13 weeks last Thursday, had my dating scan and all was well with baby. Told friends and family on Saturday. I got in to bed on Monday night and felt a trickle, ran to the toilet and there was bright red blood gushing, turned the toilet water red and also several small clots. We raced to A&E and after several hours they couldn't really tell me anything and sent me home as I had no pain. They won't scan me till Friday (their reason is there's no point since my scan on Thursday was fine - there's every point for me to know that my baby is still alive). Its now Wednesday and I'm still bleeding bright red, filling a pad every hour -ish. Strangely I put a fresh pad in before bed, and hadn't bled all night. As soon as I got up I started bleeding again. I'm trying to stay in bed but it's hard with a 13 month old 😭 has anyone positive stories that can help me get to Friday? I just feel so sad.

Fingers crossed for you ❤️

I'd push for another scan OP - don't go to a&e - call the EPU for an urgent appointment

neededafart · 27/10/2021 08:48

So sorry you are going through this.

Push for another scan.

Alternatively can you afford a private scan ?

Hfarm1 · 27/10/2021 08:56

The EPAU were who I called yesterday and said the earliest they could offer me a scan was Friday, the lady was so offhand about it. She said I could try get a private scan before but then they wouldn't see me for another for at least two weeks if I needed one. I'm starting to lose hope because the bleeding just keeps coming. When I was at A&E they said unless the bleeding got heavier then to stay at home so I don't see any point going back there. My midwife isn't replying to me, nobody seems to care.

So sorry you are going through this @Hfarm1 - what a scare and terrifying time. Have you looked to see what private scans are available near you? I got one on the same day two weeks ago so hopefully it's the same for you. Sending a big hug your way x

grace1991 · 27/10/2021 10:10

Tell them you are in pain. They will scan you. ❤️

OverTheRainbow18 · 27/10/2021 10:13

Hi,
I had bleeding at 13 weeks and rather than EPU I rang labour triage and they told me to come straight in and scanned me. Could that be worth trying? Sending positive thoughts x

Kentuckycarby · 27/10/2021 10:15

I can’t believe they won’t scan you when you’re bleeding that much
I hope everything is ok Flowers

tiggerwhocamefortea · 27/10/2021 10:26

I'd go to a&e then Op - what about trying a different hospital?

tiggerwhocamefortea · 27/10/2021 10:27

Is there somewhere you can Get a private scan? You don't need to tell the NHS you had one if everything looks fine - you can still go to your scan on Friday x

home2012 · 27/10/2021 10:51

I'm so sorry. It sounds so stressful. Can't believe they won't see you. Surely it's an emergency

33degrees · 27/10/2021 10:53

Look up subchorionic haematoma. I’ve had this before. Drink plenty of water as dehydration can make it worse. Pelvic rest, no heavy lifting. The bleeding is worse when you get up as the blood pools so comes out faster when you stand up.
When this happened to me(with 2 pregnancies) I had clots the size of my palm and was convinced I’d lost my baby. The bleeds lasted up to about 19 weeks. I never had any pain with the bleeding, just a heavy sensation.
Good luck OP. Any questions, drop me a message xx

grace1991 · 27/10/2021 16:27

Are you ok OP? X

neededafart · 27/10/2021 18:28

How are you feeling op.?

Hfarm1 · 27/10/2021 19:16

Thank you all so much for your messages. The bleeding seems to have stopped at lunchtime - I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I can think a bit more rationally now instead of feeling hopeless about it. I've been telling myself that regardless of if I had a scan today or Friday the outcome will still be the same - I'm desperate to know but at the same time scared at what it might show. I'm just really really hoping the bleeding doesn't start again, terrified each time I stand up though!

Oh sweetheart, I know it really doesn't mean much from a stranger on a forum. But I am sending positive thoughts and lots of strength your way. Fingers crossed for you.

fabulous01 · 27/10/2021 21:04

I was in lots of fertility forums

Lots of girls get bleeding. It is strangely very common. But still push for the scan and sending has as it can be very scary

Sunshinegirl82 · 27/10/2021 21:10

I had 2 massive bleeds at 20 and 21 weeks, no definitive cause ever found although low lying placenta suspected. Baby was fine and delivered at term. Fingers crossed for you.

Hfarm1 · 29/10/2021 13:06

Baby is okay 😭😭 there they were wiggling around and sticking their bum in the air. I can't even describe the relief. The lady was able to point out on the screen where there was a pouch of blood that had probably caused it, also said to potentially expect a bit more but not to panic. Thank you for all your positive thoughts and well wishes 🥰
