Hi lovelies I just wanted to reach out for some advice on my employment situation.
Well...I am 20 weeks pregnant and haven't told my employer yet. I have a probationary period so decided I didn't want to tell him until this was over, because I don't know how he will react & I have already seen him fire someone for a trivial reason in their probationary period so it's clear that he wouldn't be hesitant if he wanted to. I have at least 3 more weeks left on my probationary period, and then my boss has to give me 2 weeks notice to if he wants to fire me. This is important to me that he doesn't know until then because it is my first job since I have just dropped out of uni and I know from reading stuff online that I need to work a certain amount of weeks to get maternity allowance. Hence, I can not afford to get fired and not be working.
Anyway, today my colleague said to me "Someone said something really funny to me yesterday at work." I replied with, "oh really what was that?" He said, "they asked me if you are pregnant." And then my colleague started laughing. I got defensive and asked him "who said that". He said "I'm not gonna say" I basically ended the conversation by saying f you then. I probably should have handled it better but hey. Now I am worried that everyone is talking behind my back about me being pregnant, even tho I haven't told anyone yet as explained, I do have a little bump but it isn't that noticeable and could easily be passed as bloat and just extra fat. I feel annoyed that whoever it was couldn't come and ask me for themselves, or maybe the colleague that told me this story just made it up so that he could have a reason to ask me. Either way I feel like because of my reaction he probably thinks I am pregnant now and I'm worried my boss will hear about this gossip. What if my boss asks me? Do I lie and say no and then tell him after my probationary period is up that I actually am? I will look like such a fool. This is a mess I wish I could just be honest but I don't want to take that risk until I have another job lined up.
