Palpitations

Hi all, 25 weeks pregnant and am having the worst palpitations. My partner has felt my pulse and can feel my heart skipping. Hospital is a hour away and would have to drive myself as the kids are in bed. Is it worth going to hospital? Can they do anything? Or just ring up the maternity ward? Thanks

I'm 25 weeks and have been experiencing this as well. I've not had it checked out, just put it down to baby's position and the extra weight. Not much help but you're not alone.

I also get heart palpitations, mainly in the evenings and they're gone by the morning. My midwife seemed unconcerned at my last appointment (I'm 31 weeks) and my readings, and the baby's, are all normal.
Hope you feel better today.

I had terrible palpitations with DD2. I couldn’t walk across a room without them starting and I always felt like I was going to pass out. Couldn’t climb stairs at all. I had to leave work at 32 weeks. It can be normal but needs checking out. I had a tape fitted to record them and an ECHO. I was under the care of a Cardiologist but was discharged after I delivered and everything went back to normal. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I spoke to the girls in work today and apparently it is a really common symptom. My friend said she had it and went to the gp and he wasn’t concerned at all. So seems like just something I’m going to have to get used too! It is scary though when you can’t get your breath!

Maybe worth asking to get your iron levels checked. Heart palpitations can be a sign of deficiency.

Hi op did you go to the hosp? I also get this but I seem to wake in the night breathing fast like I need to catch my breath it’s awful & scary Flowers

Whattodonowadays · 29/10/2021 08:54

No I didn’t go in the end, it happened for three nights in a row and hasn’t happened since! It is really scary but I spoke to loads of people who said it also happened to them and was just a horrible pregnancy symptom. Hope your better soon. Maybe give your midwife a call now it’s day time and ask her.

Get your iron checked, that was always my first sign that my iron was getting too low 😁

I get them early morning (I get up at 5 for work). Just stood in a team meeting the other day and I counted my pulse at 125. It comes and goes, and whilst unpleasant whilst its happening, is mostly benign for me and stops after a few hours Grin
