Private NIPT / screening

Hi

Just discovered I’m pregnant with dc2.
A friend said she had a private NIPT and DNA test at 10 weeks.

Isn’t this what we all get at 12 weeks on the nhs anyway?

I’m trying to work out if it’s worth doing but can’t ask her as she’s not very discreet!

No, the usual nhs screening isn't dna based. The dna tests (harmony is one brand) are more accurate and virtually certain either way.

At 12 weeks you're screened for the three main trisomies - Downs, Edwards and Patau - 21, 18 and 13.

Nipt and DNA covers a much broader range.

Whether it's worth it depends of you think you have a heightened risk and if it would affect your choices going forward

No, NHS offer combined screening when is nuchal translucency and a blood test. NIPT looks at fetal DNA
