Hi - I have my first nhs scan today (had a private one at 7+4) and it’s been a long time coming! I’m so nervous and just hoping that the baby is okay.

I know what the NT measurement range should be at this stage, but would it be appropriate for me to ask the sonographer what it is? When do I get the results of the combined screening?

If there is a problem, do they refer me straight away or will I get a phone call in the next few days?

Thanks in advance Smile

I got the measurement at the scan they put a printed out sheet with the results of the scan in my notes.

Results of the combined screening came through post about a month later. They call you pretty quickly if there is an issue. If they’re within normal range it can take 2-4 weeks to get the results usually

Every trust does things a bit differently, but in my experience

(1) the sonographer will tell you the measurement and if they don’t you can ask (you can always ask anything you like, don’t be afraid to, it’s not a secret and they won’t be offended, it’s your medical information) or it will be on your notes

(2) the screening results come by letter a week or so later as they are done by a particular lab. If there is anything to discuss then a midwife will call you

(3) if there is anything of concern during the scan they usually get someone to come and check and discuss with you there and then, though it may need further referral

Good luck I hope it all goes well

I had mine done last week - scan and bloods on the Monday, results (low risk) through the post on the Thursday! I couldn't believe it! If you are near London then the tests will be done by the lab at Queen Mary so I imagine a similar time frame.

For mine like a lot for the combined tests if you don’t hear back in a week or so then there’s nothing to be concerned about. We got the results at our next midwife appointment. They should tell you their procedure but I guess ask if they don’t.

Best of luck x

They tell you the measurement. It will be also in your notes, but you better ask rather than Google and make yourself worried at home. Honestly, if there was any concern they would be able to see it straight away and they have to tell you!
They told me I would receive a phone call in a next two days if the blood shows high risk, and the letter came around 5-6 day. Good luck today!

I’m in Liverpool and I had my scan on the Tuesday, they told me the NT measurement and then I had my letter by the Friday morning and at the moment post has been really really slow so I panicked thinking it must have been a high risk result but it wasn’t. It varies from place to place. The sonographer told me it would take about a week or 2 but I had the results in days. Hope everything goes okay for you ❤️❤️

Thank you all, I really appreciate the replies. I feel more comfortable asking questions now, hopefully I will get a friendly sonographer!

I’m pretty sure I had my blood test for the screening taken at my booking in appointment a month ago so hopefully that part of the screening has been done so the next part shouldn’t take too long. I think if I have a normal or near-normal NT I will be reassured though.

@lawandgin I am with Kingston hospital so hopefully they will use the Queen Mary laboratory so it shouldn’t take too long.

Good luck with your pregnancies SmileFlowers

Oops....

I was told the NT measurement then and there. Bloods for the screening were taken shortly after the scan was completed. I got the results letter nearly 3 weeks later. But then post is quite slow atm here.

TashieWoo · 27/10/2021 04:59

Just as a quick update, the scan yesterday was a lovely experience, the sonographer was very calming and took his time to answer all my questions after he had done the measurements and looked at the baby, and he explained what he was seeing and doing throughout. Everything looks fine and as it should be for now, NT of 2mm which is in the middle of the range. I had another blood test so hopefully won’t be waiting too long for results, they use the UCL Woodson laboratory.

Thanks again Flowers
