Put on so much weight in pregnancy and only 30 weeks!

Yesterday I tried to put on a pair of shorts that fit me nicely before pregnancy only to find they were almost impossible to pull up over my newly enormous thighs and seemed stretched to their limit once on. It was the first time I'd realised how much weight I'd gained. I've been sort of nicely distracted by my growing belly and hadn't realised how the rest of me had swelled but it's suddenly hit me like a tonne of bricks and I cried to my husband for half an hour after trying the shorts on.

I am incredibly grateful to be pregnant and so happy but this was such a shock for an ordinarily slimmish person! I'm seriously considering cancelling my baby shower because my body image is so low right now. Please tell me I'm not alone. In your experience, did this weight come off easily after birth?

Hey! There is no way I could have put on pre-pregnancy shorts at 30 weeks pregnant! I mostly had a very big bump but, like you, I felt the difference in my thighs when trying to pull on old pants.

I had my baby last Tuesday so today is day 6 and I'm back in my size 8 jeans since yesterday. I'm normally 61-63kg, went up to 82kg by the time I was 42 weeks pregnant and now this morning I'm weighing 66.8kg.

I've been really happy with how quickly my body is going back to normal. I had a small breakdown on day 3 when I got home from hospital and saw myself in the full length mirror for the first time but I'm seeing a dramatic difference everyday since then. I'm breastfeeding a ton so I don't know if that's helping or not.

Try not to worry, with your big beautiful bump no one is going to notice any other small weight gain! If you are normally a slim person then I'm sure you'll have no problem getting back to normal once the baby comes! For now just enjoy your round belly - you'll miss it in a few months when it's gone! Smile

You probably haven’t gained that much if you thought you’d be able to fit into pre pregnancy shorts at 30 weeks lol everyone is different and gains such varying amounts and similarily loses the weight in varying times. You shouldn’t cancel your baby shower. Presumably you were happy with how you looked prior to trying on these shorts so just try and remember that. I’m sure you look beautiful and will at your baby shower.

Absolutely do not cancel your baby shower!! We’re far too hard on ourselves, of course you’ll have put on some weight, you’re very pregnant! It’s completely right and natural to have put on weight and really, it would be more worrying if you hadn’t at all!
As @1ce1cebaby says, you can’t look too different or you’d no have even attempted to put on the shorts in the first place.
