Sterilisation is not 100% guaranteed, OP. The surgeon sometimes mistakenly clips the round ligament instead of the Fallopian tube, or the clip doesn’t completely occlude the tube.
Possible failure would have been mentioned on your consent form.
The important thing now is to decide whether you want a termination or to proceed with the pregnancy, and whether to have a repeat attempt at sterilisation.

Use a different test. I've had false positives on those before.

Millylou3 · 25/10/2021 09:45

@Sunshine4you I’ve just done another (pack of 2) and is completely negative so I’m thinking it was a false one

That's not a very good line on that test, I would get a better test before worrying.
If a first response or clear blue come up positive get yourself booked in with GP ASAP. Your risks of ectopic are much higher after being sterilised.

caramelcracker · 25/10/2021 09:48

Definitely try different tests. I've had positives on one step like that when other more sensitive tests were negative.

Millylou3 · 25/10/2021 09:52

I’m getting different test in the morning I think it’s a fake positive the other ones completely negative

Top test is new one that’s negative

@Millylou3

Top test is new one that’s negative
I can see a line on the top one too. Sorry.
dreaminginvintage · 25/10/2021 10:45

The bottom one looks positive to me but top one seems completely clear. Definitely get a FR or clear blue asap!

namechangerforthisconfessionn · 25/10/2021 10:57

Sorry @Millylou3 but I can also see a line on both Thanks

Millylou3 · 25/10/2021 10:59

I know I think I’m in denial saying it’s negative it’s maybe just super faint - getting some new tests tommorow then going from there as online it says ectopic is more common in woman who have gone through sterilisation so will speak to a doctor if lines come up tommorow x

I can also see a line on both pregnancy tests. As PP have said, maybe get a first response Otley digital clear blue test xx

Moominmiss · 25/10/2021 11:06

I’ve also been sterilised and was told when I signed my consent form that it fails in 1:200 cases so to use another form on contraception too.

I was sterilised during my fourth c section and was also told that having it done following a c section during the same surgery also increases the odds of it failing as everything is already swollen and trickier for the surgeon to do.

As other posters have said falling pregnant following sterilisation does increase your risk of ectopic so definitely get yourself a more reliable test and if it’s still positive please see your doctor asap!

Pumpkinstace · 25/10/2021 11:08

I can see a line on both

Millylou3 · 25/10/2021 11:09

I was told nothing about using another form of contraception so obviously we haven’t been - my consultant said in her 20 years of being a consultant she’s never known a sterilisation fail so ignore the percentage of it failing 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m aware they can fail I think I’m just in shock - I was sterilised on my 4th c section

OP posts:
StylishMummy · 25/10/2021 11:18

I can see a line on both and if you're pregnant you need to arrange urgent medical attention and an early scan. Pregnancy after sterilisation can lead to a high risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Hope you're ok OP, it must be a shock!

Moominmiss · 25/10/2021 11:22

I only had my fourth c section 7 weeks ago, so everything I was told is still very fresh in my mind.
We’ve been using condoms too until my partner gets his vasectomy done. We’re hopeful then that with me being sterilised and him having the snip, we’ll be pretty safe lol.

My consultant was the opposite and said she’d seen plenty of post sterilisation pregnancies, and even more were those that had been carried out during c section surgery. She did ask if I wanted to book in separately for sterilisation surgery at a later date as it’s more effective, but I opted to get it done at the same time because I knew we planned on my partner getting the snip too.

Good luck! I hope you get the outcome you want!

Somerandomgirl · 25/10/2021 11:57

Ive had so many faint lines on those tests when was NOT pregnant...so dont think i trust them.... only if the line gets darker i would say its positive , keep testing...and it would be such surprise if u are after being sterile.... cant rely on anything these days..

Millylou3 · 27/10/2021 12:19

UPDATE! new test both clear so definitely a false positive - thanks for all the help

I bet you feel relieved. Thank goodness!

Millylou3 · 30/10/2021 08:53

Ok 3 days ago was clear - still no period and now this…. The lives are sooooo faint I’m wondering if this is a chemical pregnancy?

Maybe try and call your local epu and explain that you have had faint positives, and hopefully they could do bloods/ scan as I think it would put you at high risk of ectopic
