Please tell me we still don't have to go for smears when we are pregnant!? I have just got a letter from GP telling me my next one is due, i thought being poked about would be the last thing they should be doing right now. I am 30 weeks PG, anyone had to go for one whilst being pregnant?

I was due for a smear when I got pregnant and I waited until my 6 week postnatal checkup to get it. Pretty sure you wont have to have one now, they probably just send the letter out automatically.

I had them at the beginning of my pregnancies at my first checkup. It's perfectly OK to have them during pregnancy. But I'm sure you could wait until after the birth if you really want to.

No, it can wait 'til your six week check. I think, like beansmum says, it's probably an automatically generated letter. Ring them up and tell 'em you're not coming!

I'd def wait till after! Always had mine at 6-8 week post-natal check up but I thought there was a thread on here a while back about it being better to wait till 6 months after?

fufmum · 12/11/2004 12:08

YES i reeeeaaallllyyyy want to! I can't think of much worse things to do right now. Ok thanks i will leave it till baby is here, i can relax now

There was a thread on this a while back. You shouldn't have them when you're pregnant as the results can be misleading and not reliable. It doesn't harm the baby any, but you could end up getting an abnormal result when there is nothing wrong. Wait till you've had the baby
