C section underwear UK

Can anyone recommend good underwear for a C section please?

Not certain I'll be having a c-section but its likely I'll have to have one (long story). I bought disposable knickers suitable for c-section in general (just in case) but thinking if I need one I probably want nicer underwear...

Thank you.

I went for big briefs. Used mainly Tena disposable pants for first few weeks.

Did you find them comfortable enough with your scar?

They would be handy as I could just nip to the supermarket quickly to get them, rather than have a special trip to get them.

Disposable ones are best tbh.

I have had three c sections. Get some supermarket full briefs in a size or two bigger than your normal size. They'll be so much more comfortable than disposable pants.

Don't throw them away. Wash them and they'll be your pants for the first few months while your scar heals.

I would get two or three packs of five pants.

Forgot the say; get black ones.

You will not believe how swollen you get so invest in the biggest size pants known to women! I was a size 12/14 pre pregnancy, after c-sec I wore size 24 pants... They came right up over the tummy avoiding the scar and super comfy. Unless you're teeny weeny you won't fit in disposables xx

I bought big knickers in a size above my normal one and to be honest I wore them for about 6 weeks as my normal knickers sat right on my scar and weren’t comfortable for a while.

DoucheCanoe · 24/10/2021 19:49

I just went for supermarket brand full briefs with both of my sections, they come up way above the scar and give plenty of wiggle room.

My youngest is 9 and I've never went back because they're so comfy 😁

Cantaloop C Section pants, I loved mine and will be investing in more for this time around. They are a light support pant with a silky bit where the scar should be.

PerfectPrepPrincess · 24/10/2021 19:49

Was back in normal size at 3/4 months after.

Just supermarket 'full briefs' in several sizes larger along with sanitary pads when needed. I got all black ones to minimise visible staining. Wore them 24/7 for a few weeks so top up. Nice undies went out of the window for a while.

I’ve had 2 elective sections. You definitely want higher waisted knickers that won’t sit on your scar and I’d personally go cotton because it’s breathable and will help healing. I definitely wouldn’t use synthetic disposable pants- my consultant was a scar perfectionist and said absolutely to avoid. I personally didn’t have issues with swelling but sizing up just in case isn’t a bad idea. I was an 8 pre pregnancy, wore my normal pants throughout but bought my post section pants in a 10. I was lucky and only had light bleeding so used always ultra sanitary towels but did have some maternity pads just on stand by just in case but fortunately they weren’t needed.

I haven’t had a c section but for post birth I bought big pants from primark that are like five pairs for £3 - holds in a big old pad and are actually so comfortable 🙈 they came up pretty high so wouldn’t irritate any scar/stitches

Garman · 24/10/2021 21:41

Full briefs in a size bigger than normal are best for me, on my first section I got some about 3 sizes bigger as people recommend and they were massive, kept bunching up or falling down.

I bought m and s full briefs 100% cotton. Pre pregnancy i was size 10 and bought size 16 so fit nicely over bump. Also wore these towards end of pregnancy. I wore these after my c section and they were amazing, especially because i was v bloated after the op. About two weeks after c section I preferred cantaloop c section pants because they were mild compression pants and held my stomach in. I found the m and s ones were too loose at this point and my belly jiggled, which jiggled the wound and caused a bit of pain

I bought the classic big black high waisted pants in a size or two up. Also initially didn’t consider 5 pairs would only last a few days and I’d then need to put a washing on (which wasn’t top of my priority list and didn’t really want to hand DH my bloody knickers to wash 😂). So I got another packet too. Hadn’t really thought beyond the first few weeks of recovery either. By 4/5 weeks I was starting to get fed up wearing big granny pants under leggings etc so I ordered high waisted knickers online. As long as they’re really high waisted and don’t have lacey material or anything that will rub theyre fine. I also wore the spanx from primark sometimes to make myself look/feel a bit better. They were good underneath jeans etc so I couldn’t feel the seam on my scar
