I know this is probably normal but then a sort of panic grips me that the baby is not ok. Also suffering with month long cold and constant coughing so maybe just low.

2 good friends didn't feel anything until 24 weeks.

BellaBear · 10/12/2007 19:17

Do you know where the placenta is? If it is at the front, it can make movement harder to feel, likewise if your baby is kicking towards the back.

chibi · 10/12/2007 19:19

I was definitely post 20 weeks before I felt anything.

tassisssss · 10/12/2007 19:20

I didn't feel ds (first baby) until after my 20 week scan. Was very worried (but I worry from the moment I get a BFP onwards).

Have you tried lying in a full bath with your hands firmly on your tummy...you might feel something?

meepingaroundthechristmastree · 10/12/2007 19:22

I only relaise that I could feel my dd moving when I had my 20 week scan. Felt a tiny prod and saw her kick me on screen . Before that I hadn't really noticed anything at all - the scan just made me realise what was baby and what was the normal rumblings of my belly!

meepingaroundthechristmastree · 10/12/2007 19:23

that should have been realised

BellaBear · 10/12/2007 19:23

I didn't feel kicks until 22 weeks. From 19 weeks I felt bubbles - I think it would have been very easy to miss if I hadn't been concentrating at the time! But I think there are PLENTY of women who didn;t feel anything until after 20 weeks.

I don't want to say something silly like don't worry, so I won't! Because I am a great worrier.

SHEENA1 · 10/12/2007 19:23

Dont worry i was the same i was panicin at 21 weeks whe n i hadnt felt any movements i am now 27 weeks and he defanatley excuse the pun alive and kicking aw the time

BeeWiseMen · 10/12/2007 19:24

I started to feel something around the 20 week mark but I thought it was wind for a week and a half. Honestly. Nothing like the butterflies everyone else talked about.

PortAndLemonaid · 10/12/2007 19:35

With DS (first baby) I didn't feel anything at all until 22-23 weeks. Many of my RL friends were the same.

mylovelymonster · 10/12/2007 19:42

If you are worried, your midwife/GP would be happy to see you and check baby's heartbeat to reassure.

tribpot · 10/12/2007 19:48

First baby - definitely normal, particularly if you are (and I obviously mean no offence by this!) of a larger build, as I am.

As others have said, get the mw on the case to reassure you. Let us know all is well!

mummyrex · 10/12/2007 19:49

with my first I didn't feel anything at all until about 22 weeks and then it was only the faintest flutterings.

halia · 10/12/2007 19:59

I didn't feel anything until about 24 weeks with my first

MuffinMclay · 10/12/2007 20:32

With ds1 I felt him move from 17 weeks. With this one I've barely felt anything until now (31 weeks). MW says that this is because the placenta is at the front.

Louandben · 10/12/2007 20:42

Dont worry - I didnt feel anything until about 24 weeks either - DS was scanned a lot during my pregnancy as he was a but small and he was always but always fast asleep (unlike after he was born )!

PG again now at 13 weeks I am sure I can feel movement and at our scan last week this baby was literally bouncing around inside me! I think some babies are just more active than others.

Pk616 · 11/12/2007 09:20

Don't worry at all lass there's plenty of time for that. Here's a trick you could try though, sometimes it works

Have a big drink of water and lay down and put the TV remote on your belly. The sound of the water may wake your baby up and movement can sometimes be seen (hense the remove to 'magnify' them) before they can be felt!

redbird · 12/12/2007 20:33

Thank you all. Feeling lot more relaxed and will def try the water and remote trick!

I've forgotten now when i first felt something but it was AGES. people kept asking me if I'd felt anything and I hadn't. She actually didn't move a lot until quite late on and then only moved a lot in the bath. I managed not to worry about it too much, because we always seemed to get the '10 a day', just usually all at once. And she was perfectly healthy ... didn't want to come out she was so comfy in there!

Midwife told me to have a very cold drink, thet that would wake her up ... seemed a bit mean!
