Rhesus Negative - antibodies in blood

Hi,

I'm hoping someone might have some experience of this. I have rhesus negative blood & I am on my 2nd pregnancy. I had no problems in my first pregnancy, I had Anti d injection & my son was born with negative blood.
I have come from my 35 week midwife appointment & been told they have detected antibodies in my blood, but it's at a lower level, so I need to repeat the blood tests this week.
I've been Googling & keep seeing about rhesus disease & the implications, so I'm now worrying that the baby will be unwell.
Has anyone got an experience of this.
Thanks

You'll only scare yourself with googling... doctors know what to do
Didnt u have anti d at 28 weeks now? Its when I'm supposed to have...

Hi I also have rhesus negative blood and had antibodies in my 3rd pregnancy and honestly it’s not as scary as it sounds I did a lot of googling at the time aswell I was monitored very closely throughout my pregnancy as it was picked up quite early my numbers rose gradually and was induced at 38 weeks I think worse case baby needs a blood transfusion or baby can be born anemic my little one was born Combes positive soo needed light therapy and needed folic acid for 3 months with 2 weekly blood tests for 3 months aswell she’s now a healthy happy 7 year old hope this helps.

I'm also rhesus negative, all was fine with 1st pregnancy but now pregnant with 2nd baby! Didn't actually realise the Implications that rhesus negative could have !! So defo keeping on this thread !

This happened to a friend of mine, her baby had to have blood transfusions in the uterus. It was a stressful time, for sure, but he’s a healthy 10 year old now!

Has there been a fetomaternal haemorrhage?

Thanks for you replies.

I did have anti d injection at 28 weeks. I am booked in to have more blood tests next week to see if the levels of antibodies have risen. They said it was a low marker for now, but would need to be kept an eye on.
I didn't realise this could happen in a 2nd pregnancy, if the first child also had negative blood, so I'm just very confused about it.
I am actually already booked in for a c section at 39 weeks for other reasons, but wondering now if that could be brought forward.
I haven't had any further tests in regards to baby to know any more information, today is the first time I have been told about these antibodies.

I have antibodies in my blood since mc with very first dc.. Levels sometimes escalated occasionally.. Absolutely worst case scenario was dc had a blood transfusion in vitro. Levels rose but the worst never happened... It is very very rare... I had 11 dc eventually and no intervention was ever necessary... Try not to let it dampen your pregnancy op..

Ooh I can't give any advice but I'm interested in others' experiences. I'm also rhesus negative and my first baby was positive so they gave me an injection after he was born. My second was fine and I'm now pregnant with my third. Wondering if there might be potential issues? Didn't even consider that! One to ask the midwife next week!

Somerandomgirl · 22/10/2021 20:50

@lee12345 maybe u bled just a little bit?.. i was checked in early pregnancy for antibodies so I'm guessing u were too..and was fine.. only now having them?.. I'm afraid of it being second pg for me too with this rh - Hmm midwives assured me now they test it and all so it should be fine really.

Never ends this worry does it..for one thing or another Confused

And of course they can move the c section earlier if they see problem x

I'm also rhesus negative and was given an injection after my first baby was born to prevent issues with my second. Both my DCs were fine when they were born (both rhesus positive, as is my DH) and have had no related health issues.

@Somerandomgirl
Yes I was checked in the beginning for antibodies & also around 26 weeks before I had my Anti D injection at 28 weeks & no antibodies had been detected.

I had my last bloods taken at 33 weeks & these are the ones showing the antibodies level. The midwife did say the level is low & she even mentioned it could have been caused by the anti d injection I had at 28 weeks, which confused me even more, as I thought the injection was to prevent antibodies.
I'm trying not to worry, but finding it very hard. I keep thinking of what this could mean for her when she is here & what treatments she may need & will she have to stay in hospital for a while etc.

This happened to me in my third pregnancy. I'm negative but all my children are positive. They gave me weekly blood tests from 36 weeks when antibodies were detected and I was already booked in for a c section at 39 weeks. They just had antibody infused donor blood on hand in case I needed any if I bleed excessively ( I didn't) and the baby was absolutely fine x

Hi @IamJuliaJohnson did your friends child require blood transfusions after birth ? My baby had 4 blood transfusions In the womb . Is nearly 4 months old , having blood tests weekly and has needed 4 blood transfusions since being born . Just hoping she'll stop needing them soon . But they've said all our anti body testing is normal so don't know the cause thanks
