Gush of blood at 11 weeks

Last night I stood up & I thought I'd wet myself but when I went to the toilet I got a fright to see bright red blood. It lasted for around 30 mins, then had a few clots, and went to brown blood after a few hours. I went to the hospital last night where they checked me out, my cervix was closed, and did a scan, everything looked fine and the baby was wriggling about. This morning I've had a little brown blood but feel okay.

The hospital sent me home quite quickly due to increased COVID in the hospital but I'm just wondering if anyone had anything similar? They didn't say what they think it was - there was mention of maybe bleeding due to increased blood vessels when the placenta takes over, but they couldn't see anything obvious. I'm back again for my 12-week scan next Friday so fingers crossed..

Thank you to anyone that replies x

Very scary for you up op but pleased baby is doing well.
Lots of things can cause bleeding tbh, irritation, cysts etc.
My friend actually had a period every month she was pregnant!
Brown blood this morning is fine, just old blood coming away.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you experienced this! I had a massive bleed at 13 weeks. Like you, I was scanned and they told me all was fine with baby but couldn’t say why I was bleeding. I had brown blood every day for a month afterwards. I bled on and off throughout the pregnancy which resulted in me being induced at 37 weeks. DS is a happy and healthy 5 month old. It’s so scary, I was beside myself the whole way though but it doesn’t always end in a negative outcome!
Sending love and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.

I had a sudden gush of blood when I was asleep in bed. I was 10 weeks. It was such a lot that I fainted and fell down the stairs! Baby was fine and still no idea why. Later on it did turn out I had a low lying placenta, but they didn't mention this at either of the 2 early scans I had, so not sure if it was when I had the bleed, as it does move. Baby healthy and still fine now at 26 weeks.

Me! I had this past weekend at 11 weeks too! Loads of blood, absolutely terrifying. The hospital checked me out, checked all the clots were just blood, checked cervix was/is closed, and then yesterday I had a scan where all was well. I had spottong for a couple of days after the flood.

Apparently the blood vessels on the cervix get bigger and closer to the surface and so they bleed a bit more easily and this happens sometimes.

Everyone was really thorough with me, but ultimately confident that it's fine and just one of those things.

Really scary at the time though!

I had exactly the same thing at 11 weeks. It was as if someone turned a tap on! It soon stopped but I had brown discharge then until 16 weeks. It was caused by a subchorionic hematoma x

I had a massive bleed at 14 weeks. Huge gush of blood. Was scanned and baby was fine but the dr said it was because I had a low lying placenta. They said they wouldn’t normal tell you where your placenta was until 20 weeks because it usually moves up by then but mine was obviously a pain because I would bleed all pregnancy from it. Terrifying but baby was fine

I had this in my first pregnancy , first time when I was walking through a busy market and there was a huge rush of blood everywhere . All was well with me too but I had to stay on bed rest for several weeks as being upright would set it off again . It’s a bit unnerving and I am glad yours looks ok too

I had this, went in as convinced it was a miscarriage. Scan showed one heart beat but later 2 placentas meant it was the loss of a twin that I didn't know was there.

I had a big bright red bleed at 11 weeks too! Then brown spotting for another 3 weeks. That baby was fine and is now 14 year’s old! If you’ve had a scan and the baby looks good, that’s a fantastic sign. X

Thank you everyone so much for your lovely comments and positive stories! I think if they'd given me a reason why I bled I could have processed what happened easier, but even after seeing the baby was fine I was still thinking "but why?!"
It makes me feel a lot better knowing its not totally uncommon so thank you xxxxx

I had this at 15 weeks, now 26 weeks tomorrow and he's wiggling away still! Just was very scary at the time

MrsS89K · 22/10/2021 22:03

I @El193 I had the same at exactly 11 weeks. A huge gush of blood and 2 times I had to go to the toilet as I could feel a clot about to come out. I took a pic of the 2 big clots as I was worried the hospital wouldn’t believe me. The hospital wouldn’t scan me, but I had a private one & baby was ok, but they couldn’t see a cause for it.
I’m now 15 weeks and still keep getting bleeding episodes 🙉 as much as I hear stories of people who bleed the whole way through their pregnancy, it’s still terrifying when it’s happening to you!

bellatrixtor · 25/10/2021 09:24

I have also had this! 1st time I was at 12 weeks just 2 days after my scan and woke in the night covered in blood, took me 2 days to be seen by EPU as it was the weekend but they did a scan and said baby was fine. The second time was last week at 14 weeks, it happened at work so I went straight to the hospital, they checked my cervix and it was closed and did a scan and baby was bouncing around. They didn't know the cause either but I was told it can just happen to some people. It's so terrifying but at least our babies are safe!

Hi, just looking for advice if possible. We found out we were pregnant 6 days ago and roughly 8-10 weeks, on Saturday I wiped and had a pink tinge on the toilet roll then on Sunday morning it was blood colour, I contacted and went to maternity they sent me home and an hour later I was back with a bleed and I had passed a clot about the length of my finger. I have had no scans or blood tests the Dr just told me it was a MC because the pregnancy test was negative.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? Google is driving me insane with info on chemical pregnancies and hook effect
