I'm 38+1 as a result of IVF and wondering if there is any link between IVF pregnancies and the timing of babies arrival?

Clutching at straws I know!!

DD came unexpectedly at 34 weeks. They don’t know why though and nothing was mentioned about her being an IVF baby.

Slippingcareer · 21/10/2021 21:16

@Giraffephan oh wow I'm sure that was a shock!

First one at 33 weeks, second planned c section very near due date

Giraffephan · 21/10/2021 21:51

@Slippingcareer yeah very much a shock! I had to phone work and say I won’t be coming to work as I had had the baby 🤣 hope your little one doesn’t leave you waiting too long!

nobeer · 21/10/2021 22:00

I was induced at 41 weeks with DD. Good luck OP!

anthurium · 22/10/2021 04:57

Watching wife interest - I'm nowhere near ready, so I hope the baby doesn't come earlier than expected. Good luck Flowers @Slippingcareer

Labour started naturally at 41+5

emmy4 · 22/10/2021 05:54

First born at 33 weeks, second on their due date.

sazzt · 22/10/2021 05:56

39+1 planned c section

Vegasdreaming27 · 22/10/2021 07:49

Spontaneous labour at 39+3

Eumy · 22/10/2021 10:41

I'm being booked in for induction at 39 weeks - in my trust this is apparently their policy for IVF babies. I'm happy with this though as it means I won't be going overdue!

Slippingcareer · 22/10/2021 10:57

@Eumy one of my
Consultants mentioned being induced at 40 weeks but never really said why. When I asked at following appointments no one would answer me so I still don't know if it's a hospital policy or just this particular doctors view.

This is interesting, thanks for sharing @Eumy. I've not been informed by my midwife anything about inductions for IVF pregnancies - I will ask at by next midwife appt.
Eumy · 25/10/2021 15:22

@Slippingcareer so when I spoke to my consultant she said it was that there is some evidence of higher risk of the placenta failing, and potential higher risk of stillbirth for IVF pregnancies which are allowed to go over their dates. It’s a minor risk, so I think not all trusts do the induction for ivf babies. I probably could have requested not too, but I’m happy to be induced.

Interestingly my midwife didn’t say anything other than you’ll be induced at 39 weeks, and it was the consultant who explained the potential risks.

Slippingcareer · 25/10/2021 15:36

@Eumy thanks for the update, glad your appointment went well.

I had my ivf DTs at 36+5 due to severe pe, but had originally been booked in for an elcs at 38+4.

I don’t think my two had any intention of coming out without intervention, and I’ve never been so glad to get sick before!

Hoptoit1 · 25/10/2021 16:04

So mine are now 17,12 & 12 now.
My first I was told I'd need to be induced at 40 weeks but had dc naturally at 39. Prior to Dt was told I would be scheduled to be induced at 40 weeks. When they discovered it was twins I was induced at 37. This was all hospital policy at the time.

Level75 · 27/10/2021 13:34

@Slippingcareer the 40 week thing is standard for ivf where I am. I think it's because some ivf pregnancies are higher risk (age and other factors) You don't have to go with it though. I did some research and found that in my circumstances there was no scientific reason to induce at 40 weeks and told them it wouldn't be happening. Think my DD was born 38+5 so didn't need to press the point.
Good luck!

Slippingcareer · 28/10/2021 13:56

So it turned out I didn't need to worry about induction! I went into labour at 38+5 and she was born at 39 weeks exactly!
