Knicker recommendations for after c section

As the title explains really … what knickers did you get for after an elective c section?
I had an EMCS last time and had just bought black knickers in a bigger size from Primark that could be binned, but I’m not sure if they’re really the best option.

Full briefs! Asda or m&s. So comfortable. Sloggi if you want to spend more.

One package of disposable then back to normal.

ImStayingInside · 21/10/2021 20:36

Did you size up?
I am currently wearing H&M’s maternity hipster shorts in a S.
I don’t think I will ever give them up, they’re just too comfy!

No, I never needed maternity underwear as somehow what I had was just under the bump, so it fit after too. Baby was born prematurely though so bump stayed high, I don’t know if that’s how I managed it.

Marelle · 21/10/2021 20:48

Big belly warmers so the seam isn’t resting near where your scar will be. You may find you can never wear hipsters again because they dig in your scar.

tintodeverano2 · 21/10/2021 20:52

As big and as high as possible! Ones that go right over your belly button!

Not sure if the link will work but I bought the JL maternity knickers which sat higher than my scar and were very comfy. They've also got a compression feature to help flatten the tummy muscles.

The price is crazy but I felt I deserved it and I did wear them (4 pairs) for months.

I got these. They are fantastic. Were so comfy after my section and great quality. Am going to buy more as I’m not going back to Normal knickers, no thank you!

I agree to buy the c section pants as pricy as they are. I got mine from mothercare but can't remember the brand. I think boots do them too.

They've got extra support in the right place, a bit like Spanx but not as tight. I never felt uncomfortable around my scar and it healed perfectly - no infections and could barely see it 18 months later. I think I wore them for 6 weeks until I missed a wash cycle and had to revert to my old pants!

Big cotton ones.

I bought some v cheep synthetic ones in anticipation of this, and trust me, you don't want to get all sweaty.

MabelG · 22/10/2021 08:16

Disposable knickers from Amazon. I wore them for 3 weeks post section. Not the most attractive of things but they were comfortable!

MindyStClaire · 22/10/2021 08:23

I got the big cotton ones and wore them in third trimester (missed that trick first time around!) and after c section, very comfy. Put a thick maternity pad horizontally across your scar and then you'll be able to stand against changing table etc.

bravelittlepenguin · 22/10/2021 08:31

The only ones you need are M&S high waisted full briefs in black. Don't buy white for obvious reasons. I really hated it when I tried disposables for my first after my section. You feel like you're wearing a nappy and I didn't feel the level of bleeding made it necessary. Big black pants that go over the scar with big maternity pads (I liked lil lets ones better than own brand) is all you need.

doadeer · 22/10/2021 08:40

I got huge ones from Amazon in a multi pack. High and black lol

MsMiaWallace · 22/10/2021 08:43

I bought big black cotton ones off eBay a couple of sizes up.
They were a life saver.

Whiffle77 · 22/10/2021 08:52

I wore the always incontinence pants and these were the best thing ever, would highly recommend. Comfy, dont irritate your wound and no need to wear a sanitary/maternity towel. I felt so safe from leakages in them as well, much better than normal pants.

Nat4392 · 22/10/2021 11:33

Just some big black cotton ones will do. No need to get any pregnancy specific ones. As long as they’re big enough to stick a maternity pad in and they sit above where your scar would be.
I got these:

Nat4392 · 22/10/2021 11:34

(I also just night my usual size but you may wish to go up a size)

qazxc · 22/10/2021 11:38

Full briefs. I prefer black as leakages won't wreck them. Didn't need to size (knickers are pretty stretchy anyway).

Chelyanne · 22/10/2021 11:41

Cheap black full briefs, 2-3 sizes bigger than your usual

Chelyanne · 22/10/2021 11:45

My belly stayed huge, felt like my abs had given up on life for weeks

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 22/10/2021 12:24

Get a postpartum girdle for c-section, an abdominal binder, c section recovery belt/band, or compression girdle. Really helps with pain, supports, holds everything in and protects it from being brushed against.
