AM I PREGNANT? Help!! And other...

I've been pretty busy today.

I've been feeling all sorts of weird things over the past two weeks - bloating, breasts feeling bigger and sensitive, tiredness, insomnia, body temperature rising, taste of metal etc etc - that I decided to take a test 3 days before my period was due.

First test - Sainsbury's POSITIVE
Second test - Waitrose NEGATIVE
Third test - CB digital early - NOT PREGNANT

I'm pretty sure two negs and one positive means as it says on the tin - NOT PREGNANT but would like to know if others feel contrary?

I will take another test first thing in the morning as all tests were taken within an hour of each other today - which makes me think it not a chemical pregnancy because of the time frame.

My thoughts are this is a negative result this time but I keep reading that it's hard to produce a false positive which is sending my mind wandering...

Also to note me and my partner have not really been actively trying to conceive with ovulating devices etc but we've decided not to be careful either.

We decided around 13 weeks ago to stop being cautious although I have been off of the pill for nearly 6months.

The last two months I've experienced really heavy bleeds that have lasted just 3 days. (Whereas usually I'll have a moderate flow that lasts 5-7day). This is something I have found odd as it also began around the same time we agreed to not be careful anymore - thoughts on this would also be welcomed?

How 'positive' was the positive? Was it a blue dye test?

Usually a positive is a positive, but blue dye tests can be really unreliable and quite often show a shadow or indent line IME.

Use something like a FRER and try again in 24/48 hours. If you are pregnant, it will have got much darker by then.

BelieveInRainbows · 21/10/2021 17:42

It's possible that the sainsburys test was an evaporation line, apparently they're quite notorious for being unreliable! I would call it negative but test again if your period doesn't arrive.

SylvanasWindrunner · 21/10/2021 17:42

And use first morning urine or after a three-hour or so hold. Peeing multiple times in an hour means the HcG won't have a chance to build up in your urine if you are pregnant.

doodledeedum · 21/10/2021 17:43

All three tests consecutive?
Your urine will be diluted and a digital needs higher HCG levels x

doodledeedum · 21/10/2021 17:44

Also weirdly when we me and my partner decided to 'go with the flow' my periods got lighter and shorter too!!!!

It was as positive as positive can be. Two really solid lines. It wasn't faint in the slightest. I would showcase a picture but as I'm new, it won't allow me to do so 😞

Periods may have changed if you came off contraception. Or (hopefully not) it could be perimenopause. (Happening to me at moment). Can you do an early detector test, a clear blue I think?

I've read this too about Sainsbury's tests. Waitrose didn't have a good write up either. However the CB digital did have very solid reviews.

Thank you! I guess the best thing to do is try again in the morning. I feel silly now doing them back-to-back but just NEEDED clarity and now I've made it worse 🤣🤷‍♀️

It was a blue dye test. Are those not reliable sources?

Thanks for all of the sound advice! I'll try that.

Do a First Response Early response test. They are the most accurate in my experience, although the big standard Clear Blue also showed up pretty early. If it's was a strong positive then it's highly likely that you are pregnant.

doodledeedum · 21/10/2021 17:55

I think with two solid lines you prob are pregnant- so congrats! Hopefully you can confirm tomorrow

If the line has any colour to it - it's not an evap line. I do think maybe you've just used diluted urine.

In the past I've held on to my wee for as long as possible in the same day if I've wanted to test more than once because I can't take the wait lol.

I also think the 'relaxing' changes how our bodies behave. For example.... I convinced two times, each times it was the months I didn't track or watch anything, just went with it and had fun. Enjoy the process regardless x

Thank you! I did wonder if it was maybe a delayed response to coming off of the pill. And like you say, it does show all the signs of pm. (I looked it up before this chat and wondered if it could be the offset) so I'm glad you mentioned it! My third test was a Clear Blue digital early test and it read Not Pregnant. It's all so confusing isn't it?! I'd only life was simple. Smile

Thank you! I'll give the FRER a whirl. It was a toss up between that one and the Clear Blue digital early - which was test three! I'm really hoping it's positive and not a dud test!

Thank you very much. I hope it is.

It was a solid bright blue line and literally came up in under a minute as positive. I was dumbfounded at the speed. But perhaps I've dashed out too early to triple check and maybe my urine is diluted...I hope so anyway!

My period is due on Saturday so I'm going to hold out until then. And taken my next test as soon as I wake up (which will no doubt be at the crack of dawn) to check. Will let you know the outcome :)

Aren't tests more likely to be false negatives than false positives? I bet you are pregnant!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow...

ShoesEverywhere · 21/10/2021 20:43

I took a Sainsbury's test a few weeks after a miscarriage once the internet cheapie tests had been negative for a few weeks and it was a faint positive - I swear they're the most sensitive tests! Test tomorrow morning but I reckon you're still in the game Grin

KPS13 · 22/10/2021 09:03

I took another clear blue digital early test this morning - first wee of the day and after no water - and it read; Not Pregnant. Looks like I'm not expecting this time round. Thanks all for your kind messages.

Good luck OP. Though it's still early days - not late yet?

doodledeedum · 22/10/2021 12:41

@KPS13 oh no 😞 again it may not be strong enough for it- remember we're told to test after a missed period after all but it will happen! Keep up the hope x

Hi all I wanted to ask about evap lines but did a search to see if there was an active thread already.
@KPS13 hope you don't mind me jumping onto your thread.

Can anyone confirm whether this is an evap line? Friends have said it looks like a BFP but I'm 99.999% sure this is an evap. There was no line during the 3 min time frame. All pink dyes have come up negative and I'm due AF tomorrow so this is a CB ER test. Thanks!

This is 100% a BFP. Evap lines are indents where positive lines should be. Congratulations
SylvanasWindrunner · 22/10/2021 15:16

I'd be cautious @FlipperyGibbet

IME, those very thin lines on blue tests can sometimes just be dye runs. I've seen them be so on here and elsewhere before.

If you're getting nothing on pink dyes then I wouldn't take it as gospel until I could confirm. Get a FRER or one or the new CB early digitals and check again tomorrow.
