33 weeks pregnant -baby 4lbs 4oz

Hi ladies,

So after a few losses I'm finally pregnant. I went in for a scan at 33 weeks where the baby measured at 4lbs 4oz and the fundal height was 30cm. The midwives didn't seem concerned but I can't stop thinking baby is on the small side 🤔
It's following the chart but still concerned.
Anyone in the same boat and have any idea of what the baby weight might be or foods to increase weight?

Thanks in advance xx

You're 33 weeks. The baby has another 7-9 weeks of growth and they put on lots of weight in that time. Plus, growth scans aren't that accurate!

zebra80 · 20/10/2021 21:25

I think that's a healthy weight for 33 weeks - if baby was lots heavier at the moment you'd be heading for a 10lb-er at term! FWIW my pregnancy app says average weight at 33wks is 2.15kg which is 4lbs 11oz and given the 15% measuring margin of error that seems bang on :-)

I had a growth scan at 32 weeks last week and was told baby was 4 1/2 lbs which was on the pretty heavy side - trying to take it all with a pinch of salt at the moment!

Sounds like you are growing a lovely healthy wee baby x

FirstTimeMommy2021 · 20/10/2021 21:27

They're really not accurate at all so don't worry. I was told all along my fundal height measured bigger. I had growth scans and they told me he would be at least 8lbs.

He was a tiny 6lbs 9oz.

I also have friends who had the same thing. Infact one of them was measuring "small" they said they were worried he had stopped growing so they induced her at 39 weeks and he was almost 10lbs!!!

So don't worry honest xx

Thanks ladies, this provides some reassurance! I think its because I have had a few comments on how "compact" my bump is - I am just being paranoid that something might be wrong! xxx

I had a smallish bump and my baby measured 5lb 5oz at a 34 week growth scan. He was born at 37+4 weeks weighing 7lb 5oz, so the scan was pretty accurate. But had I gone to 40 weeks he’d have probably been a good 9+lber!

I’d say your baby is a great weight for 33 weeks. They do tend to pile it on in the last few weeks.?

PainAuChocowhat · 21/10/2021 11:43

I just checked my text to my husband after my 32 week scan and was measuring “just over 4lb”. She popped out at 7lb 13oz 8 weeks later so I don’t think you need to be overly concerned.

CoffeeWithCheese · 21/10/2021 11:48

DD1 was born at the end of 33 weeks and was 4lb 15 so you sound about right really.
DD is now a gangly, legs you'd kill for, stroppy as fuck 9 year old and completely normal.

CTR1000 · 21/10/2021 11:48

That’s a perfect predicted weight for 33 weeks - no issues there.

I’m 33 weeks and it’s still not overtly obvious that I’m pregnant - bump looks very small but despite this fundal height measurement off the charts (I am pretty tall). Sent for a growth scan and baby on 50th centile so bang on average. Just goes to show neither judged size of bump or fundal height are really helpful at all! Sounds like predicted weights not that useful either in fairness..

Viviennemary · 21/10/2021 12:06

I don't think its small for 33 weeks.

GuidingSpirit · 21/10/2021 12:10

Even if it is small, it doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong. My DD was born at 38w after being diagnosed as small for gestational age and she was 5lbs 12oz. She had some other issues after birth (not related to her weight - she had sepsis), but otherwise is just very tiny. She is long but just very petite in weight. She is now 4months and still on the 2nd curve, and meeting her milestones, so its probable that she will just stay that way for now!

RainbowTortoise · 21/10/2021 12:26

I’m 33 weeks too… I’ve just had a scan and the estimated weight of baby was 4 lbs 3 oz and they asked me to come back in 3 weeks for a growth scan. She did say it was borderline as baby was on the 10th percentile (I think anything under 10 they keep a closer eye on baby). My first born was 6 lbs 6 oz on her due date so it looks like this one is measuring similar… My second was 6 lbs 3 oz at 36 weeks and my third was 7 lbs 11 oz at 39+2.

Ameteurmum · 22/10/2021 20:57

I had a scan this past Monday at 32+1 and they told me she was 4lb 9oz and I thought that sounded massive 🙈

santabetterwashhishands · 22/10/2021 21:14

My son was 4.7 at 33 weeks weight scan and he was born at 41 weeks at 10.7.
I don't think you have much to worry about.

ivykaty44 · 22/10/2021 21:47

AD1986 how tall are you?

just that the average baby is 7ilb and average height is 5f3 so another 7 weeks of putting on half a pound a week and you'd have an average baby size

FawnFrenchieMum · 22/10/2021 21:52

My DD was born at 36+3 weighing 4lb1oz, they believe she stopped growing at around 32 weeks, so that weight sounds about right. They did also tell me in a growth scan just before she was she would be over 5lb so it’s not always accurate anyway.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/10/2021 21:56

Ds3 was born at 32 weeks and weighed 4lb 2 which they said was a good size for 32 weeks. They tend to put loads of weight on towards the end

angstridden2 · 22/10/2021 21:58

I was the size of a house with first baby and tiny with second. They both weighed a pretty average 7lb ish when born.

squiddybear · 22/10/2021 22:01

I can provide some reassurance if they are small! Mine was born at 37 weeks at 4lb 14oz and was perfectly fine and we went home the same day. Small doesn't always mean bad

Yaya26 · 22/10/2021 22:12

I always understand that on average after 30 weeks babies put n 8oz / half a pound a week. If you have another 7 weeks to go - you're talking about a v respectable 8 pounder. As for eating extra don't do it. I had a baby measuring small and I panicked and ate to excess. I just got fat, baby showed no increase in weight gain. I was told it was pointless.

Yaya26 · 22/10/2021 22:17

I also had twin boys. One was a four pounds and measured small in every way. He was the best baby ever. Healthy and great eater, sleeper. Now he six. Still small but gorgeous, exceptionally healthy, bursting with energy and (without meaning to blow) the class star. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Xx

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 22/10/2021 22:23

I was born at nearly 33 weeks and was 4lb 4oz!

Goodness knows how big is have been if I’d be born at term; as an identical twin, if my sister & I had been born at term that could have been over 18lb. Makes your eyes water just thinking about it.

I have more than made up for a small birth weight since!

My son was born at 42 weeks weighing a tiny 6lb 13oz, my daughter at 39+2 at 8lb 3 1/2oz. Ate more in my first pregnancy than my second. Son was bigger comparing my scan to dates, my daughter much smaller. I may have had more luck licking my finger in the air & guessing than the predicted scans suggested lol!
