Weight gain with first and second babies

Hi - can anyone tell me how much weight they put on overall with their first and second babies - was there a difference? I put on 2 stone with my daughter and was fairly healthy to start with - bmi of about 23. With this pregnancy I was a bit overweight to start with bmi of about 26. I am already 11 weeks and have only put on about 2 maybe 3 lbs. I can't remember how quickly I put weight on last time but do remember that I didn't really show until about 4.5 to 5 months. I am really hoping I don't put on more than 2 stone with this one but most people tell me they put on more with their second - is this true?

Thanks

You generally show sooner with subsequent babies, because you've already been stretched by the first. The amount of weight you gain has very little to do with how much you show.

I was slightly overweight with both.I'd say my starting weight was the same for both pregnancies which would be a BMI of about 26. First time I would estimate I put on 2 stone (didnt weigh myself at the end). But I do know that I weighed about what I do now by 12 weeks whereas this time I am 24 weeks and only put on 9lbs. In fact I think I may have lost weight as I had to take my engagement ring off as it was falling off. If you are overweight to start with you dont need to put so much on. I am not bothered as baby is fine and I have plenty of reserves on me still

with dd1 bmi at start was 17.5 put on 12 st 12 lbs,
dd2 bmi was 18 to start put on 12 st 12 lbs
this pregnancy i was 18.5 bmi to start and have so far put on 18 lbs which is about right when compared with the last to. so for me even though i started at slightly different weights ive always put on the same amount (i eat like a total pig by the way )

Normally the slimmer you are to start off with the more weight you put on.

I had a BMI of about 18.5 when I got pregnant, and I put on 18 kgs (nearly 3 stone) during pregnancy without becoming hugely fat or eating very much.

i started off at about 55kg (8 stone 8ish) and went up to just over 10 stone and now i am 52kg (8 stone 3) but i train alot and i must admit i did not eat alot during pregnancy and bf helped me get back into shape.

I started at 8st 7 when pg with DS, and went up to 9st 13 by end of pregnancy (reached 40 weeks).

This pregnancy (twins) I started at 8st 3 and am so far 9st 3 at 32 weeks. This is quite low weight gain though I think, despite me eating cake all day.

Both times I have lost weight in first three months (about 5lbs), although have not been sick or not eaten either time.

When not pg I can gain weight pretty easily if I don't exercise. Am not exercising at all this time as too knackered but am walking every day with DS to get a bit of fresh air (sometimes only for 10 mins though!).

i put on 5 stones with DD and i'm determined not to put on that with this pregnancy although so far so good as i'm not hungry much this time round.

Spugs... did you mean to say you put on 12 st 12 lbs??? TWELVE STONE? Surely not?

toomanyshoes · 10/12/2007 15:45

4 stone the first time but was eating like a pig and craved carbs all day long. Am 37 weeks with number 2 and only gained a stone this time but have gestational diabetes so have had to be really careful with what I eat and give up chocolate
