Hi all

8 weeks pregnant and never suffered nausea like it. There is nothing I want to eat, not even chocolate 🤔 it’s horrendous!

Anyone else out there suffered nausea in pregnancy and how do you deal with it?

I have 2 boys and never suffered nausea during those pregnancies, taking so bad!

Thanks in advance x 🥰

Hi OP. Anti-sickness bands didn't work for me, just made my wrists a bit sore! The only thing I found eased symptoms was always nibbling something when I drank anything. Fruit worked well as it is moist and light on the stomach. Dry crackers and ginger did nothing for me. Liquids were really hard for me to stomach so I had to eat and drink at the same time. It's hard work, best of luck with it. x

MSHxx · 19/10/2021 15:10

I tried the anti sickness bands, tried being the key word. Didn't work or help at all. I'm now 12 weeks and still suffering and only found eating little and often to be any help. I think it's just a ride it out process🤦🏼‍♀️

FallHappy1 · 19/10/2021 15:17

Sickness bands did nothing for me. Try sucking a mint, I found that helped a little. As above PP said eat small and often. Fizzy drinks also helped, I could tolerate fizzy drinks much better than plain old water. Also sticking to just plain food helped. I almost always felt worse if I let myself get hungry, even if I didn't fancy anything I'd try and eat something every 3 hours.

Ok thank you 😅 my gp has prescribed peppermint oil which I will get tonight!! Gp offered anti sickness tablets, bad idea?? I’m not keen on taking meds if can be helped!

Yes Dorothy ginger not doing anything for me either.

Oh no MSH 12 weeks and still suffering 😫 hopefully not too much longer!
Thanks again x

I tried the bands but don’t think they helped,
Just made my wrists sore. If you can’t keep anything down try your GP, some medication may get you through. It’s shit isn’t it

Hi the sickness bands worked really well in my first pregnancy but not in my second no idea why! You could try having some flat lemonade as the sugar can help (but the bubbles would made it worse!). Or get lemon oil or peppermint oil and put a drop on a handkerchief- when the nausea comes take a sniff it may help.

I also ate a yoghurt last thing at night to give my digestion some protein to work on, and I had a packet of plain biscuits by my bed and ate one as soon as I woke up.

These are the things that helped me

With both mine I felt sick from week 6 until week 12 and it went literally overnight at 12 weeks.

MSHxx · 19/10/2021 15:24

@MumOf2Boys1315 I was speaking to my friend yesterday who suffered the same with her son and she said it didn't ease until 16 weeks. I feel like mine gets worse as the day goes on as well. I haven't actually been sick, but my god so I have a weird random gag at anything that smells bad or I don't like the smell of. Even just writing this, I've just gagged😂

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/10/2021 15:48

I know eating is hard but you must eat small amounts regularly. An empty stomach makes the nausea worse

MumOf2Boys1315 · 19/10/2021 16:04

Thank you all for the advice!

@Chrysanthemum5 thank you for the tip! I will try the peppermint oil! Yes feel worse that haven’t eaten too 🤦‍♀️

@MSHxx this is same for me 😭🤣 🤢

I also felt that nausea and frequent urination are the only symptoms I have! Breast tenderness has disappeared, is this normal?

MumOf2Boys1315 · 19/10/2021 16:06

@jamsandwich1 thanks, yes definitely shit!! 🤦‍♀️🤣

MSHxx · 19/10/2021 16:09

@MumOf2Boys1315 my breast tenderness isn't as intense as it was. I would say my nipples can be a bit sensitive to the touch. I did notice that all comes and goes x

MsSquiz · 19/10/2021 16:09

I used the sickness bands and I've got no idea if it was just the timing, or they actually helped or it was a placebo, but I did feel a bit better on the whole.

The only thing that actually helped me this time round was cinnamon swirls! Grin apparently cinnamon helps with sickness and the carbs helped settle my stomach. And then throughout the day I just snacked on carbs every 2 hours! (A few crisps, slice of toast, half a plain sandwich, shortbread or digestive biscuits) and constantly sipping water.
I'm 13+3 now and only just out of the constant sickness slump

Derbee · 19/10/2021 16:48

The bands definitely helped me. I found weekly acupuncture helpful too, although pricey at £50/session. I went through a long time where I could only tolerate fruit and dried pasta. Having crackers or biscuits by the bed to nibble AS SOON as you wake up helped me too.

I then stopped being able to keep anything down, and was admitted to hospital for IV fluids and anti sickness meds. I’m an extreme case, as I was diagnosed with HG. Currently taking anti sickness, but if you’re not actually being sick, I don’t know if I’d take them as they say they can make the baby drowsy.

My nausea is only controlled when I am physically in the act of eating. So I’ve been looking for low calorie snacks to be eating all the time. Carrots, rice cakes, crackers, fruit. Salads and bowls of soup have been great, as I can take ages to eat a meal, and get the benefits of snacking for longer.

Good luck, it’s miserable though! Most people feel their nausea has disappeared or vastly improved by the 2nd trimester. I’m sure that seems ages away though.

MumOf2Boys1315 · 19/10/2021 17:12

Thank you ladies!

So I have been feeling off for around a week now. My lovely mum just dropped off a pack of 2 bands and after 10 minutes of having them on I threw up 🤦‍♀️🤣 I feel so much better now though than I have been for days. I was eating a wee tub of jelly in that 10 minute space too so really not sure if it was the jelly or the bands?

Now currently snacking on rich tea biscuits 😃😅

That sounds awful @Derbee you really have been through it, how far on are you?

@MsSquiz that’s good to hear that your nausea went away over night! 😅 13 weeks seems like a long time away 😳 x

Anti sickness bands are nothing but placebo! There is absolutely no scientific evidence for them at all. Please don't waste your money.

Derbee · 19/10/2021 17:44

@GlowInThePark in YOUR opinion. Even IF there was merely a placebo effect, the end result is that some people feel better wearing them. And it’s hardly wasting money when they’re a couple of quid.

@MumOf2Boys1315 I’m currently 17w4d but didn’t want to say, as I didn’t want you to think that the sickness will last that long!

MsSquiz · 19/10/2021 17:53

It really was a loooooong time! I found out at 4 weeks and had nausea from 4+3!

Luckily DH took on the bulk of child care for toddler dd because I've been good for nothing for weeks!

I was so excited when I ate a full meal!

MumOf2Boys1315 · 21/10/2021 07:02

Thanks ladies! @Derbee wow nearly 18 weeks 😍 that also seems like such a long time away! Hope your nausea settles soon.
I am still struggling but feel these bands are working a treat and managed to eat some real food yesterday 😅 but mainly just rich teas 🤣 not feeling quite as unwell though.

MumOf2Boys1315 · 21/10/2021 07:05

@MsSquiz aww yes that’s lovely that hubby been hands on, I must say my fiancé been really good too 😅 and my mum, dunno how I’d manage without them x

OP posts:
Derbee · 21/10/2021 13:33

@MumOf2Boys1315 I didn’t even take my bands off to shower, at some points! I noticed the sickness kicking in as soon as I took them off. Glad they’re helping, and good luck with your pregnancy.
