I am probably over reacting but I'm very sure that I can smell ketones on my breath, a sweet coffee type smell. I am 15 weeks and haven't had my urine tested since I was 10 weeks but if I have ketones on my breath I would be at an advanced stage wouldn't I so sugar would have been picked up then. As I have already said I am over reacting but has anyone got any advice?

Only advice would be not to panic - get yourself down to a dr for a quick blood glucose test. Do you have any other symptoms of diabetes, thirst, weight loss?

Most people who get gestational diabetes get it later in the pregnancy, and most can be controlled by diet, but there are worse things even than being on insulin.

Not saying you have diabetes, but it may be worthwhile going to your dr.

It would be very unusual to have gone from a clear urine sample (ie no glucose) at 10 weeks to glucose in urine at 15 weeks. However as mm22bys says, its very easy to get your mind put at rest at your surgery with another test. Vomiting will give you ketones- do you have bad MS?

Thanks mm22bys and lazyhippo. I bought a testing monitor this morning and my level is 6.1 which as far as I remember is fine. Still not sure why I can smell ketones on my breath, I'm really sure thats what it is as the smell is so distinctive, I am eating my norma amount and not vomiting. I am seeing the midwife and consultant on wednesday so can ask them about it then but at least for now I know that I don't have raging blood sugar levels. Thanks again.

6.1 is fine. When did you smell the ketones? It could be that your body produced some ketones because it was "starving" over night (which is a lot less less serious than when your body produces ketones because of lack of insulin).

Good luck
