Hi ladies, looking for some reassurance!

I am 5 weeks following 2 previous MC earlier this year so I am a total anxious mess!!!

Sitting outside OOH atm with a confirmed UTI however because I have bad pain in my kidney area the doctor thinks it might be a kidney infection.

She’s prescribed Oral Amoxicillin which I’ve read is “safe” but is now considering sending me into hospital for IV antibiotics.

Does anyone have any experience of IV antibiotics in early pregnancy? Or should I try the oral first and see how I get on. Worry is I do that and could be fighting if quicker with IV.

TIA xxxxx

I would take whatever the doctors recommend. When I had a recurrent UTI I was prescribed strong antibiotics. I was nervous about taking them, but the doctor explained that an untreated UTI is more dangerous to the baby than antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks @Derbee it’s such an anxious time. Hope you don’t mind me asking was all ok with the pregnancy?

I don't but do have experience of a kidney infection. Take the IV antibiotics if they give them to you. I'm on my third course of antibiotics for a UTI that won't shift, it is a nightmare and I can only presume the next step for me may be going on a drip.

Oh I missed off, I'm 25 weeks pregnant and they only thing they've said is that if I'm still on the anti sickness tablets (which I'm not) that I was prescribed for the kidney infection at 28 weeks I need to stop as the baby could have withdrawal symptoms. All the other antibiotics I've had I'm fine to have in pregnancy.

@pregnancydiaries am currently 17 weeks 2 days, and everything fine so far. Recurrent UTI was between 7wks and 11wks, with 2 courses of antibiotics

@mummyh2016 @Derbee

Thank you both so much for your stories and advice. Dr said to take the orals for a couple of days as no temperature yet and wait for results from lab so doing that. It’s such an anxious time this early.

@mummyh2016 get yourself back to the Dr and on that IV drip, need to look after yourself too.

Good luck to you both with your pregnancies xxx

@pregnancydiaries thank you! I finish my course tomorrow morning then have to drop another sample in the docs so I'm praying it has gone!
