Hi,

So I'm 6 weeks pregnant today. But started bleeding on Thursday evening (3 days ago). It started off light pink, then brown. I called my GP on Friday and they send me to the EPU. I got blood tests & an internal exam. Dr said my cervix was closed and she can't see any tissue or clots but I need to come back next Thursday for another scan. She thinks it night be an infection so did some swabs. When I got home I had bright red bleeding for about 24hours and now seems to have slowed down and become brown again but very very light now. I don't think all the blood over the last few days would have filled a pad and I have been wearing panty lines and the blood hasn't gone to them, it's only when I wipe.
Does anyone have experience of this? It's my 1st pregnancy so am really anxious.
Thanks

I miscarried at a similar time and it was a very heavy period within 48 hours of the first light bleeding. Lots of clots. Dark red in colour. If your cervix looked closed on the scan that’s a good sign, and the lightness of bleeding. It’s such a nerve racking time though so you have my sympathy! Hopefully all is well, the waiting sucks though x

It's very hard to know, I've had heavy miscarriages and quite light ones, but the fact that your cervix is closed is certainly a good sign and there are other causes of bleeding in early pregnancy that are totally normal, don't harm the baby, and are no cause for alarm. Some pregnancies just seem very bleedy? Not that that's reassuring.

I don't want to assure you that everything will be fine because it is so so hard to tell which way things are going to go, and there's nothing you can do to change it. Speaking from experience, if I were you I'd hope for the best and expect the worst. Hold fast, be kind to yourself, do something nice - first trimester is just a total stress-fest and you need to ride it out. I'm thinking of you and hoping it works out your way x

Thank you for the positive responses. Im really panicking but still a little bit optimistic, but definitely prepared for the worst. Haven't seen any clots so keeping an eye on that.

Hi just to give an update.

I have an early scan yesterday and it was confirmed that I am having an ectopic pregnancy. Anyone experience similar I would advise getting checked out. I now need to wait and see if I need surgery.

so sorry to hear this, OP. But I'm so glad you got it checked out.
