When do I visit the doc/midwife?

I am 6 weeks pregnant. Everything ok and eating healthily. Been taking folic acid for months. Am average mum age, average fatness...so when do I need to make a doctor/midwife appointment? If I don't get a scan till 12 weeks (?) then why go before then?

Thanks

I went to see my GP this week at 5.5 weeks. It's my second pregnancy, & despite having diabetes & therefore needing more attention, she seemed remarkably keen to get rid of me! She filled all the forms in, said she'd fax them off & I should hear from the hospital within a couple of weeks.

If I were you I'd go along in the next couple of weeks. Although you won't get a scan until 12 weeks (unless you have any bleeding & ask for one), you still need to be booked in for it, I don't think you can just turn up. I reckon getting in the system earlier rather than later is probably a good thing. Good luck .

Go to GP who will fill in some forms and refer you to Midwife. They will contact you and arrange a booking in appointment - lots of paperwork and questions about family history etc etc. They will book your scan date work out you due date, arrange for your first blood tests etc - this is what i have done anyway. I am 7 weeks - my first midwife app is next week.

Went at about 7-8 weeks with both of mine. You need to have an appointment for scans so need to go fairly promptly.

Also my friend wanted to be booked into a popular hospital that gets oversubscribed, so once they have their quota of ladies for certain dates they won't take any more apparently!

This wasn't the case with my hospital though!
