Sciatica in early pregnancy

Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I had sudden pain in my left leg. I hadn't done anything to it so I was very confused. It's really bad so that I'm limping and having to keep my leg off the floor as much as possible.

At first they thought I had a blood clot but it's not swollen so they've said sciatica.

I can only take paracetamol which doesn't touch it. I've looked up on it and it seems far more common in later pregnancy.

Has anyone else had this? If so please give me advice on anything you know that could help! I'm wondering how long it could last as I'm struggling.

I had that with first DC, I stepped my pace up a bit as a car was coming and I did a few steps as a little jog and wow the pain was unbearable! I was told to sleep on the floor (uncomfortable couldn’t sleep) found it took me 45 mins or so to get up off the floor!!! Decided it wasn’t worth it so ended up sleeping back in bed.
Sat bolt upright in a chair, so uncomfortable, but sofa was a no go.
It does get less painful but takes long time to feel normal.

I remember this well I had it in early pregnancy and after I had my dd. In early pregnancy I couldn't get in and out the bath I had to get my dp to help it was so painful I really feel for you. The good news is it does get easier and eventually mine did go away after a few weeks. Try a hot water bottle or heat pad and massage where it hurts and if you can a nice warm bath. There are some easy stretches you can do online to help ease the pressure too. Hope this helps a little

I've sciatica since week 16.
I'm now 24 weeks & nothing helped other than prescribed low dose codeine at night.

I had it in my last pregnancy and it was absolutely painful! My job was very active so nearly everyday I'd be sent home not being able to walk, I ended up taking maternity leave earlier than expected but it really did get easier and it started to soothe properly once on maternity leave. Now I'm pregnant again and I'm not looking forward to possibly having it again this time either.

I had it during pregnancy with my son, I literally couldn't put my foot to the floor at one point, DH had to carry me to the bathroom! You can take codeine during pregnancy, that's what I was prescribed for it

Yeah I had this very early on in my last/third pregnancy. I got a pelvic support belt, ice the area, and what really helped a lot with it was exercise, assault bike, squats, lunges, etc. Then after first trimester I got a deep tissue massage for it, that always helps the most.

I had sciatica before I was pregnant and had to stop the painkillers I was on. I went for acupuncture and that fixed it, I wish I’d tried it earlier. I’m now 39 weeks and it hasn’t returned (touch wood, fingers crossed!)

I hope you get some relief.

Hi all,

It has eased slightly but I've been off work. This happened last week and then it was terrible when I returned again.

Ive read about physio as it can last a long time and as I'm 14 weeks I'm just thinking oh my god....

Can it just go away? Hoping someone says yes 😂
