Varicose veins or bruise? 21 weeks pregnant

I noticed this weird purple patch on my ankle about 9 days ago, just thought it was a bruise, but looking at it now it's in a weird shape.

Could this be varicose veins or is it just a strange shaped bruise?

I have googled it and I don't think it looks too similar to the ones I've seen, but I've also never heard of this before. Is it something I should be alarmed about?

I'd say after nine days that it isn't a bruise. I've a lot going on around my ankles at the moment too - water retention, spider veins, heat rash. Good old pregnancy! I have varicose veins on the back of one thigh. They were visible before pregnancy but have worsened since, and do sometimes look like bruises rather than raised lumpy veins, depending on how much water I'm holding there that day. Oh the glamour
