Potential IUD pregnancy?

Sooo looking for some advice.

I had the mirena IUD inserted in November 2020 (at 12 weeks PP). Its been a pretty smooth ride until now and I've had light periods each month. The other day I realised I haven't had one for a while.

I checked my IUD strings today and my IUD literally fell out of me eeek. We last has unprotected sex a week ago.

What is the likleyhood that I'm pregnant?! I have got some tests coming tomorrow but I just needed to vent and get some opinions! Thanks xxx

Small chance with that coil, only time will tell. Good luck with the test, hope you get the result you want.

Our twins were a failed coil conception, I'd had the copper coil fitted less than a year. There was no sign of it on scans, no idea how long it'd been gone before conception.

Thank you, it wouldn't be the end of the world if I was pregnant just a year earlier than we would have liked haha.

Omg that's crazy!? What were your symptoms?

Just the usual tbh, our newborn singleton had me feeling worse in the 1st trimester than the twins did. Later on when they got big it became tough, they were 17lb combined at 38wk so I was absolutely huge!! They were a huge shock but they are awesome.

So I realise they are an absolute blesaing to you but that scenario is my nightmare. I am waiting for a coil appointment as long term contraception. We have 3 under 5, I cannot have anymore.

I know no contraception is perfect but was there any suggestion as to why it had failed.

Chelyanne · 15/10/2021 01:05

@Muststopeating No specific reason suggested, they just said I was unlucky. I do have a retroverted uterus, may or may not be related. They were our 4/5th.

How did you get on with tests, OP?

rainbowdashsneeze · 15/10/2021 11:06

I'm 10 weeks pregnant and I have the copper coil. It's still In there, the consultants are trying to work out the best way to go forward.

I had the coil Inserted approx 2 years ago and has no problems really. The scan suggests the coil has moved and has gone further up past the cervix into the womb.

I was so poorly constant vomiting, headaches you name it serious pregnancy symptoms. I was never pregnancy tested as I have the coil so instead I was sent for camera in both holes.

My urine showed I had ketones (this may be the wrong word sorry) that showed I wasn't keeping food and drink down so I was sent to the gynaecology ward again I wasn't tested but was given a scan and low and be hold a perfectly formed baby moving around with a little heartbeat. I went into complete shock vomiting shaking I completely dissacociated from the situation.

It's not been easy I have chronic health problems and my children are teenagers now so I'm not sure I want to continue with the pregnancy but I haven't made a decision. I think if I wanted to abort it I would have straight away. Although I may loose the pregnancy anyway if and when they decide to remove the coil.

Tested about an hour ago and 100% negative, going to test again tomorrow with FMU as it might be too early as we DTD last Thursday so maybe too early to tell it I am pregnant?

Fingers crossed you get the result you want!

I am following because I had similar thoughts. Had mirena coil inserted at 10 weeks pp (my boy is nearly 1 year old). For the past week have been feeling a bit queasy and off food, and I am never off my food! So have been wondering if I'm pregnant. Strings are still there. Tested today and also negative. Will retest in a week to be sure, as I don't have periods with Mirena, so who knows what the cycle is doing..

Kry1212 · 15/10/2021 15:46

I feel the same feeling queasy but also unsure if I am imagining things?!

The uncertainty is so hard, I hate it. Now that I'm experiencing this a tiny part of me hopes I am pregnant but then I also know that the timing isn't 100% right hence why I was on BC!

Only time will tell, now to try and put it to the back of my mind for a few days 😂😂

@Kry1212 did you test again? I've peed on some ovulation sticks and by staring at some weak lines that eventually disappeared with subsequent tests I'm assuming I did ovulate at some point in those days. Holding off testing again for another few days. Now I really wish I was pregnant!

Kry1212 · 24/10/2021 18:49

Yes I've done several and all totally negative, probably a good thing if I'm honest 😅

Good luck hope you get what you wish for xxx

All negative here too. And I was getting excited. Realistically timing isn't fantastic, so I tell myself it's for the best.
