felt just dreadful for last couple of weeks - I know its a part of pregnancy but am just shocked at quite how tired I Feel. Despite nearly 10 hours sleep and doing very little yesterday, I have taken nearly an hour this morning to rouse myself off the settee to write this.

Need some reassurance that this isnt that abnormal and that it does go eventually

I'm 15 weeks and would happily spend the whole day in bed and still sleep well at night. It is normal to feel very tired at this stage your body is working very hard. If you are really concerned you could ask to be tested for anemia.

MrsBadger · 09/12/2007 12:52

absolutely normal
it will get better (and then worse as you lumber into the final trimester)

but in the meantime be kind to yourself and sleep as much as you like

poppy34 · 09/12/2007 13:04

thanks you two - I didnt think it was that abnormal but am just shocked that people weren't fibbing about quite how tired you feel!

I just popped in to post something very similar to you! I thought at 12 weeks, I'd start to feel a bit better and brighter however, I am still knackered, I look dead due to grey skin, my hair is a mess and my sickness is getting worse, not better.

At the moment, I am surprised as to why anyone does this more than once!

beeper · 09/12/2007 14:58

get them to check out your iron levels. I was the same and started to take spatone iron drink thing and now I am loads better.

madChristmasmouse · 09/12/2007 16:12

For me it was the first sure sign I was pregnant. Sore boobs, nausea ok, but I had never felt this knackered before, from doing absolutely nothing at all. It lasted until about week 15 with me and disappeared with my nausea. DH was away from home at the time, so I used to come home from work, eat fresh pasta (the stuff that cooks in three minutes) and go to bed. He was shocked about my diet. I told him to shut up or come home and cook .

It will get better, honest. Unless your iron levels were already low it may be a bit early for anaemia, but ask your mw.

finallypregnant · 09/12/2007 17:39

Never thought to have that checked. At the hopsital on Wednesday so will ask then

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 17:41

I am hoping this is going to be my worst week

I had a total of 12 hours sleep yesterday and I still feel like crap

tassisssss · 09/12/2007 17:47

hello fellow pregnant-and-feeling-rubbish people!

i'm 13 weeks and feel TERRIBLE

ridiculously tired, emotional, sicky and MY HOUSE IS A TOTAL TIP

there's just so much to do...

dal21 · 09/12/2007 19:32

My tiredness/ spottiness/ greasy hair and sore boobs all lifted around 15 weeks. I suddenly got oodles of energy - the 2nd trimester bloom does exist! Hang in there, listen to your body and get as much rest as possible. you will soon still be awake at the end of Eastenders, I promise!

tassisssss · 09/12/2007 19:35

thanks for that dal

last time my pelvis went at 20 weeks, this time i have a strapping great 14 month old to lift, so I'm expecting (dreading) similar might happen

it'd be lovely to have at least a few good weeks in between!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 09/12/2007 20:06

Just wanted to add I was sick as a dog until 16wks in my first pregnancy. I had days I couldn't lift my head off the pillow except for puking purposes. Stop fighting it and take a sickie! If you have flexitime at work you might even be able to afford an afternoon off each week until you feel better.

tassisssss · 09/12/2007 20:12

PB, that's when being a SAHM really sucks!

AnnainNZ · 09/12/2007 20:25

The first trimester was BY FAR the most exhausting bit of pg for me. I would be asleep by 7.30pm some nights.

I now have a 5 wk old dd and I am not even a hundredth as tired as I was in first trimester! Got better around 13 weeks for me.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/12/2007 20:27

LOL felt shit and exhausted right the way through - now am pregnant with number 2, still nursing number 1 and honestly I could sleep all day and all night (while eating at the same time) and still be hungry and tired.

BTW the first trimester is 13 weeks not 12 so there is hope for you yet Poppy!

mumtolou · 09/12/2007 22:54

lol me too im 17 wk really tired hairs greasy full of spots and really bad headaces nearly every morning when i wake never sufferd with this with my first pregnancy though the joys of being pregnant !!!!!

minouminou · 10/12/2007 00:33

Yeah...i was tired and very very breathless.
You're growing the placenta and cord, and it's quite a feat - takes a lot of energy (hence the fatigue and breathlessness).
it'll lift, believe us
i think i was better by 14/15 weeks.
try drinking small amounts of water regularly, as i found i was dehydrated quite a bit, too
relax and look forward to your 2nd trimester

debinaustria · 10/12/2007 06:30

I'm so looking forward to the 2nd trimester!!! Hope it hurries up with all that it promises - I'm 14+3 and still very tired and sick in the mornings.

Deb

PoinsettiaBouquets · 10/12/2007 08:12

It's amazing the amount of energy this part takes, the nausea is a symptom of blood sugar levels whizzing up and down (although the vomiting is bafflingly counterproductive.) I remember feeling like all the food I ate was going to the baby and my body was eating itself alive just to keep me going.

micegg · 10/12/2007 13:19

I had this particularly badly this time. I am now 24 weeks and feel quite perky. I found it suddenly vanished along with the nausea at about 13-14 weeks.

poppy34 · 10/12/2007 20:15

minominou - hadn;t really thought about headaches and constant thirst but that probably is part of it too

OP posts:
Yorky · 10/12/2007 21:23

I could very happily have hibernated through my entire pregnancy, DH dutifully read the books then kept asking, when is the 2nd trimester, don't you get an energy burst then? I didn't!
Never felt ill though, just shattered

klzmar88 · 20/12/2007 10:33
