How much do breasts grow in the second trimester of pregnancy? Wedding dress question

Hello! I'm almost 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I'm also getting married in mid-December.

We're having a very small, budget-friendly wedding, so I've been looking for affordable maternity wedding dresses that work for the winter weather (so with sleeves) and being concerned that I'd run out of options if I waited any longer I placed an order over the weekend and the dresses have arrived today.

My #1 choice (www.tiffanyrose.com/maternity/clothing/SVGI/Silvia-Maternity-Wedding-Gown-Ivory.html) didn't actually come in the size I thought I'd need (10-12), so I ordered in a 8-10 just to see it in person, while I ordered another two in a 10-12. It turns out the dresses are pretty generous in sizing and the 8-10 is the only one that fits, the other two being too large across bust and shoulders.

I'll be around 22-23 weeks pregnant on my wedding day, so I don't expect to have a big belly by then, but I'm worried that my breasts will become bigger and the dress will no longer fit across that area. It has some elasticity and some give, but I'm naturally big-breasted and they have already grown about a cup-size or two in the first trimester (not the band-size, though, that has stayed small), so I wonder if they will continue to grow in the following weeks or whether they will stay more or less as they are until the third trimester.

Any experience would be super helpful - thanks!!

Everyone is different for this. Your best bet is to make sure your outfit will accomodate if they do grow a lot

thingymaboob · 12/10/2021 15:14

It varies

ImStayingInside · 12/10/2021 15:15

Could you ask a local seamstress if they would be able to alter the dress closer to the time if needed?

leakymcleakleak · 12/10/2021 15:21

I know its annoying not to be definitive but mine basically went up about two cup sizes per trimester. I was a 30g before my first pregnancy, and ended up a 36JJ at the end (the band sizes also moved, but for reasons I don't fully understand my bumps always seem to pretty much start in between my boobs!) I'd also say 22/23 weeks was just around the time I was straddling the looking like I'd just put on weight/having an actual bump.

You look beautiful in that dress though if that's you, and it looks like a good fit with some room. All I can say is if it was me, I'd have needed to go up at least one dress size to fit my boobs but also actually my hips/thighs - I sort of generally expanded - but I know friends who would have totally got away with it. Maybe if you have a backup plan you can decide closer to the time? I think its unlikely you'll balloon overnight, I'd say by 18 weeks you'll know if you're on track to fit into it or not.

Oh God, I'm starting to regret buying the dress 'too early'. It didn't feel early though, as the wedding is two months away Confused

Can you afford to hold onto the 8-10 plus one of the 10-12 size dresses and then sell on the one you don’t wear as ´new with tags’?

Hadenough21 · 13/10/2021 14:08

I think the pp’s suggestion of having a 10-12 as a back up is a good idea! If that’s possible for you. Could you order a 10-12 nearer to the wedding and then still be within the returns period if you don’t end up needing it? It’s just so unpredictable with pregnancy. Everyone is different. Your appetite could go through the roof in second trimester etc, your bump could be bigger than you expect, it’s just so hard to know.

Is there a decent amount of room in the 8-10 dress? It looks beautiful by the way Smile

Cotswoldmama · 13/10/2021 14:12

It varies but for me about 2 sizes then after birth another two sizes when my milk came in.

Hello,

The dress is lovely! I'm only a bit ahead of you (18w). I had to have a bra fitting at 7 weeks as I'd noticed a lot of growth. But since then I haven't really noticed any more so I'm wondering if that will be more in the 3rd trimester.
Bump-wise I have grown a lot since 13w- it's nothing this dress wouldn't accommodate and there's loads of people uploading bump pictures week by week if you Google to get an idea. The only thing I hadn't appreciated was as your bump grows it pulls the material upwards making dresses shorter at the hem if you know what I mean.

Good luck with it :)

Mine grew by a cup size in the first trimester but have been steady since.

You look gorgeous, and I’m 100% sure a seamstress could do something if it was really needed - they worked magic with my dress during the pandemic!

You could always meet with one to make a plan if it’d put your mind at rest, but I’d hold onto the dress if you love it. I had to wear a different dress due to Corona, and I’m still a bit sad about it!

I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and I feel like my boobs are inflating rapidly at the moment 🤣 I don't have any advice other than agreeing with other posters that holding on to a larger backup may be a good idea, but I wanted to say your dress looks absolutely stunning on you, it's gorgeous.

SylvanasWindrunner · 13/10/2021 14:52

Ah you look lovely, OP!

My boobs shot up in first trimester (so quickly I got stretch marks on them 😬) and then didn't change much after that until birth.

coffeewithmilk · 13/10/2021 15:07

I'm currently 24 weeks and my boobs have become huge.
I was a 34B pre pregnancy and I got measured last week and I'm now a 34DD!! I couldn't believe it.
I'd leave a bit of room in the dress so it allows you to grow, but it can be easily taken in if needs be

shivawn · 13/10/2021 19:09

Mine stopped growing at around the 10 week mark.

Aranciata · 13/10/2021 20:09

My boobs have gone up 5 cup sizes and I'm currently wearing the last bra I bought with an elastic extender as I don't want to buy any more for a few weeks.
Hopefully yours don't grow that much as it's a lovely dress. Congratulations on the baby and the wedding!

Hello! Just wanted to update in case anyone is in a similar situation.

I am now 20 weeks pregnant and my 30Fs have become a 30GG. Needless to say, my old dress stopped fitting me about a month ago and have had to find an alternative. My body is still roughly the same size, just breasts and belly have increased in size so far, which is making bra-buying a pain (30s are hard to find even as an F).
