Bottle Sterilisers

Hi,

I'm 21 weeks with baby number 1 and I'm getting organised with my shopping list as we have a lot to buy over Christmas and a holiday planned!

I've managed to make decisions on most other stuff, but I am really stuck on what type of steriliser to use! Cold water, microwave or electric?

Any recommendations? I would like something that is both cost efficient and practical.

Microwave was the best we found. A bit bulky but we just store it in the microwave when not in use. We have the tommee tippee one because that's the bottles we use, but previous to that I had an advent one on loan that was also fine.

I opted for cold water (not used yet though). I think it said once you've made up the water it's good for 24 hours. I figured it might be more straight forward than microwave and I didn't even consider electric.

Cold water method saves time (especially if you have a screaming baby) but the Milton used to make me gag.

Pros and cons with all of them.

I’ve always opted for a microwave one. Very easy, no faff. We use avent bottles do have the avent microwave steriliser.

The mam bottles. You stack them and sterilise them individually or as a batch in the microwave without an additional unit. We love them. We have a Milton cold water steriliser as back up too, we had a microwave go caput when we had our twins on bottles alone so better safe than sorry.

We use a Tommee Tippee microwave steriliser which we got on sale half price from the Tommee Tippee website. We find it really easy and it just gets kept in the microwave when not in use. It does four bottles at once which stay sterilised for 24 hours if you keep the lid on.

Anyone tried a uv steriliser, which dries the bottles as well? I've got my eye on one of these, wondering if it's worth the extra money

Microwave beat cold water for me. Mainly because it irked me buying Milton (it’s just expensive beach and lots of plastic to go through). Microwave is a doodle and quicker imo.

Cold water all the way!

Microwave sterilisation because it's so easy. Wasn't a fan of cold water and you have to keep re buying the little Milton capsules anyway.

We have a Tommee Tippee microwave one and it's so simple, no faff. Wash the bottles and pop them in the microwave

We struggle for worktop space so got a microwave Steriliser. We just store it in there which is great. MAM bottles don’t require a steriliser which is a big bonus. We only ended up getting one because I needed it for sterilising breast pump stuff at the beginning and we’ve carried on using it.

I am a FTM too, so no experience - but after a lot of research us personally are going with the MAM bottles. They are self sterilising in the microwave and so no need for any hefty or expensive steriliser units. Their dummies have the same process too, so we are going with MAM all round.
