8 weeks tomorrow and struggling with constant nausea

Hi,
I found out last week that I’m pregnant with my first and I’m struggling so much with the constant nausea. I haven’t been vomiting more than 3 times a day but I can’t seem to get rid of the crippling nausea.
Nothing seems to be helping, have tried crackers, ginger things etc but I’m really struggling to eat anything during the day. Any tips would be really appreciated! Don’t think I could cope with this for the full pregnancy 😩
Thanks in advance for any replies

The good news is that it often peaks around 8-9 weeks and then gradually gets better. Have a look at vitamin B6 - there's lot of resources online. But if it's really crippling, speak to your midwife/GP as there is stuff they can prescribe.

You’re at the worst stage, it will have eased significantly by your 12 week scan, and probably be gone by 14 weeks. Just eat what you can

GoodnightGrandma · 12/10/2021 06:44

Hopefully it will be a lot better by 12 weeks when the placenta takes over. Currently all your hormones are causing this.
What worked for me was sipping, not drinking, cold Diet Coke every time I felt the nausea coming on. You’ve got to do it as soon as you feel it starting.
And eat little and often, graze through the day ! Having a full tummy made me throw up.

GoodnightGrandma · 12/10/2021 06:45

A fan on my face used to help too.

romdowa · 12/10/2021 06:46

I had horrendous sickness earlier this year, up until 17 weeks. What helped eased it for me was eating little and often. Never let your stomach be empty and weirdly ozmeprezol. I'm 36 weeks now and get the odd day where I feel a bit yuck so it does pass .

neededafart · 12/10/2021 06:51

I am 8 weeks also. I feel horrendous. Constantly sick! No advice for you but I know how you feel !

babybadger25 · 12/10/2021 09:06

Thank you for all your replies! I’ll try the cold Diet Coke tip, all I want at the moment is ice cold diluting juice but that’s not helping with the nausea at all.
I have been trying to graze but really struggling 😩 just thinking about food makes me nauseous!
It’s good to know I’m not alone though and that it will pass eventually, just struggling to see that right now 🙈

Sometimes people use euphemisms for miscarriage which could encompass abortion without it really being a lie

You could say you ‘aren’t pregnant anymore’ or you lose ‘lost the baby’ and you don’t wish to discuss it further and that’s less of a lie than blatantly saying miscarriage

Hi OP! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I’m currently 8+5 and the nausea has been horrendous to the point where I just want to lay down ALL day, anyway, I thought I’d try travel sickness bands - started using them Monday morning and my nausea is 95% better! Can’t actually believe it, I got mine from Amazon - I’ve added the link below of the ones I ordered, maybe give this a try! Hope you feel better soon xxx

@Darcy278 thank you! Congratulations to you too! Is this your first? I’ve been the same, have barely left bed for three days and can’t face anything other than ice lollies and ice cold juice! Thank you for the tip, I’ve ordered some and they should be arriving tomorrow, will give anything a go at this point 😩
Hope you feel better soon too!

@babybadger25 yes this is my first, well, I had to MC’s last year but I don’t have children and this is the furthest I’ve ever got in a pregnancy so I’m feeling optimistic Smile is this your first? Ahh good I’m glad you ordered them I hope they work for you too!

itswonderful · 13/10/2021 15:31

I feel your pain, it is so awful in the thick of it. In all honesty, nothing helped me. I was hideously nauseous day and night until 16+1. I woke up the next morning and nausea vanished.

babybadger25 · 13/10/2021 16:18

@Darcy278 sorry to hear about the MCs, hope that everything goes well for you this time! Yes, it’s my first, was a bit of a shock to be honest and still doesn’t feel real!

@itswonderful yeah, in the moment it feels like it’s never going to end 😩 it’s so strange how it randomly just disappears one day! At least you haven’t had it for the full pregnancy though, I’ve been torturing myself reading lots of stories from women who experienced it for the full 9 months 😳
I’ve tried all the things that most people recommend, I have travel sickness bands coming tomorrow which is my last hope for something to help!

I’m 7 weeks and have been similar to you are for a couple of weeks. I went to the dr because I had had a temperature for about 10 days and had a virus and she prescribed Cetirizine which has not taken it away but I am now functional not laying on the sofa all day. I’ve got the sea bands but they haven’t really helped. My main issue is I’m sitting here feeling like crap and I’ve got a 2yr old jumping all over me Confused

UniformSchmooniform · 13/10/2021 18:35

OMG it's awful - all I can say is just push through - most of the time it abates around 12 weeks - it did for me with my second - absolutely nothing with first and both are boys so it's no clue to gender! Yup one day it just lifted and that was that.

It's grim though, I remember it being like a wall in front of everything. I did get some meds - can't remember what they were - it was over a decade ago! So do seek help from your GP. Other than that I just chugged Dr Andrews Salts to settle my stomach and lucozade (not sure that's a winning formula on paper).

Sending hugs x

babybadger25 · 14/10/2021 13:04

@LittleMG congratulations on your pregnancy! I do t know how you’re managing with a 2yr old as well, I’m struggling to just look after myself at the moment! Hope you’re feeling better now, it must have been horrible with a temp too, I’ve been overheating enough as it is 🥵
I’m planning on trying the bands once they arrive today and if they don’t help I’ll phone the docs on Monday to ask for something because I can’t deal with it for much longer, I’m self employed and haven’t been able to do any work which isn’t ideal when we need to be saving as much as possible for when the baby is here!

@UniformSchmooniform fingers crossed it does ease a bit at 12wks, seems an eternity away at this point though! Yeah, I’d heard that bad morning sickness was more common with girls but I’m trying not to read into those things too much 😂
It is like a wall, I’m just struggling so much to even get out of bed 😩 I’m going to try the bands when they arrive today and if I have no luck with them I’ll try the GP, the bands are my last attempt at finding something 🤞🏻
Thank you for your help ☺️
