I'm reading some posts saying mums with planned c sections are being asked to self isolate before the op to avoid covid. Is that people's experiences?

Was your birth partner asked to as well?

What about any kids you already have?

How long do you have to isolate for?

Happy to do it, just will need a bit of planning.

As it's an operation it will be standard - reduce social contact for 7 days (to avoid catching Covid), get Covid test at hospital then SI for 72 hours before procedure. Ideally people sharing house should SI as well.

I had my elective section 5 weeks ago and wasn’t asked to self isolate.

I had a Covid test done at my pre op appointment 2 days before my section, and my partner had to do a lateral flow test the morning of the c section, and then each day he visited me in hospital. As it is I was only in 24 hours anyway.

In the couple of weeks before my c section date, we were just a little more careful with making sure we wore masks when in shops, and my partner who usually drives to work in his van with his co worker, instead drove separately so as to minimise the risk. But I had 3 children all at school so tbh for me the risk was always there anyway.

Luckily neither us, nor the kids ever tested positive so it wasn’t an issue. But I was never actually asked or told to self isolate ahead of the surgery.

The consultant said she’d be in touch nearer the time to let me know details of how long I should isolate for, she never was though 🤷🏼‍♀️ When I asked at the first appointment she said my partner should avoid non-essential trips out so was fine going to work or for shopping but not much else. I wasn’t vaccinated so I basically isolated the whole third trimester anyway

Well that all sounds like it varies a lot! Thanks everyone. I'll ask my midwife at my next appointment if she knows what happens locally. I'm due just after the kids go back to school in Jan so am thinking about seeing people or not over the holidays and then whether to send the kids to school or not when I'll be having my section a couple of days later.

Advised to three days before, (this was last month) but no guidance for birth partner- he had to work anyway. I was double vaccinated and mostly did isolate apart from walking (not coming into contact with anyone) just for those three days. didn’t have to show a negative LF on day.
