Failed sweep

Having a complete meltdown and could do with some support if anyone is in the same boat Sad

I’m 39+5. Been cramping for days, can barely sleep or eat. Anaemic and have no space left in my body at all. Lost loads of discharge, feel generally terrible constantly.

Midwife appt and baby is barely engaged and cervix too high and closed to reach. She said at a best guess 2cms but very far back and not fully open all the way? The hospital are unwilling to book me in for an induction until 41 weeks so I’m just stuck like this for another week or more until my date whenever that is. I didn’t even want an induction but I need this baby out now. It feels like eternity and I’ve already tried everything to get it moving with no luck.

Anyone else in the same boat? Why is my cervix not doing what it’s bloody meant too and getting this baby out of me Sad

I had just this. I was booked in for an induction a few days after my sweep at 39+5 too. After my sweep the midwife said my induction would be a long process as my body was no where near ready. I natural went into labour 2 days later on my due date.
Hope your not waiting too much longer. The last few days are awful

I can relate although I'm not having all the discomfort you've described. Flowers I'm 40+4, had a failed sweep on Friday due to closed cervix and the babies head isn't engaged. Left the appointment feeling really disheartened. I don't mind waiting but I'm really worried about having to be induced, visiting restrictions are still strict at my hospital and I really wanted to spend most of my labour at home.

Sorry there’s others in the same boat! Rubbish isn’t it.

It’s not helping that DH needs to go away on the 1st so it’s limiting his time with the baby if I’m not induced for another 1-2 weeks Sad

I’ve got some bloody mucus discharge, is that normal post sweep/not a proper sweep!

That sounds promising to me, I've had zero signs of anything happening since mine!

I had two sweeps late last year. It's not one or nothing; I thought normal practice was to try again? Of course, there's no guaranteeing it will work second time around, but I had a second one about a week after the first, and DD came 4 days later. I'll never know if it was the sweep or not, but that's always the case really. Good luck xx

@TataMamma my midwife will try another next Monday but it’s still 7 more groundhog days until then Grin

I’m due to go and see the consultant at the end of this week to book induction- really didn’t want that but I feel like this baby isn’t going to give me a choice!

Please dont feel disheartened! With my recent pregnancy I was booked in for an induction at 39 +2. I had been having irregular contractions for over a week before (which had been noted by midwives on the monitor as I had been in hospital with obstetric cholestasis). The midwife offered me a sweep at 39 weeks exactly but then couldn't do it as my cervix was favourable. 24 hours later my body had gone into established labour off its own accord and baby arrived a few hours later.

GSD20 · 12/10/2021 07:56

That gives me some hope @Peanut91!

I had lots of bloody mucus yesterday but nothing today. My tightenings have stopped and it almost feels like I’m less close to Labour than before. I’m terrified of induction but there’s just no sign of anything from this baby! My last one was early so it’s just typical Hmm

Just to update this- second sweep today and I’m 3cms with bulging waters. Please please let it happen soon Grin
