I’m shocked, upset and feel guilty, had a positive pregnancy test in august to then start bleeding for ten days, heavy with clots and a lot of pain. So I go from then not knowing I was pregnant, I’ve already got two children so I know how it feels to be pregnant and I’m so confused today as I had a positive test the doctor sent me for a scan and it turns out I’m 12 weeks 3 days, I haven’t took any vitamins and have had a drink occasionally between now and since the what I thought was a miss carriage. Does anyone know how I’m still pregnant after the loss off all that blood?

Some women do bleed and experience clots when pregnant and go onto having healthy children. Take care of yourself going forward as I can imagine you will be in a lot of shock!

It could have been a twin pregnancy, I lost one very early on and had a lot of cramping and passed blood and fetal tissue so assumed I wasn't pregnant anymore. Went back in to be sure and still still strong heartbeat and now an almost 9 year old. And sometimes people just do bleed during pregnancy.

TMI warning - I had a subchorionic haematoma diagnosed at 7 weeks after I bled profusely and passed massive clots of blood. I was put on bed rest until my 20 week scan just due to the size of the new subchorionic haematoma that had formed in just 2 days when I was 7 weeks pregnant.

That baby is now 15 years old. Had I not have had the clots checked at the hospital I would have been convinced that I had miscarried, in fact the gynaecologist who was on call (I couldn't stop bleeding) thought it was a miscarriage until he examined all the clots and found nothing but blood which he was surprised about. Scan revealed viable pregnancy and a large new clot forming.

My mother had this at 6 weeks...my sister is now 35! Come from a long line of twins so suspect she lost the twin at 6 weeks. or may have been a clot that just dislodged. Don't worry too much about the drinking etc - unless you were binge drinking every night it won't have much impact.

Good luck with the baby. fingers crossed for you

I had bleeding about a week after my period was due so I assumed I was just late, didn't test (very expensive back then) then 6 weeks later when I got no period I went to the dr for a test and was 10+ weeks. They told me I was probably carrying twins. Same think happened for second child too, this time I had a two vessel cord which often indicates twins

My sister had a subchorionic haematoma and had huge gushes of red blood a few times. She absolutely thought she had lost the pregnancy but little one was absolutely fine.

Don’t worry too much about not taking the vitamins or a few drinks. The baby has only just started sharing a blood supply with you in the last couple of weeks so the odd drink won’t have made any difference and lots of people don’t take vitamins and it’s overwhelmingly likely the baby will be fine. Hope you’re ok it must be a lot to take in.

What a shock i had similar. Had I not of gone to be scanned i would of been none the wiser. I poured with blood and clots with my daughter from 7-17 weeks but she made it and is now 2.5 sleeping next to me! I was positive id lost her after the first mega bleed and after 2 previous losses so sat in the shower and had a bottle of wine that night, shes fine. Dont stress yourself about the drink, hope you are ok and have a healthy pregnancy x
