Leg cramps

Hello! I'm 17 weeks and woke up with the worst cramp in my calf. It was so severe it woke me up from sleep and I actually screamed. It took a minute or so to stop but it's now a day and a half later and I still have a moderate ache/pain in my calf. I'm limping a bit when walking.

I heard that leg cramps are common in pregnancy, has anyone else experienced this? Did pain persist? Any advice?!

Thank you!

No advice I'm afraid but I'm hoping someone can give some... I've been suffering with awful cramp in my calves in the middle of the night since around 17/18 weeks so I feel your pain, literally! It's so bad that sometimes the muscle can hurt for a few days afterwards 😭

You're not alone Thanks

That sounds exactly the same! Same gestation too. Is it happening frequently for you?!

I have this occasionally and in third trimester now. No solution unfortunately. Just remember not to stretch your legs in bed 😅

Yep, I'm 29 weeks and have had calf cramps from early doors. I hate banana's but they are apparently high in magnesium, which helps keeps the cramps away. They've definitely lessened since I've started forcing them down 🍌🤢 I have a friend (who's due the same time as me) who has banana smoothies everyday and she's never had calf cramps, so maybe there's something to it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ah yes they are vile. I have got away so lightly this time around until earlier this week when I mistakenly stretched and now I feel like I've torn muscle. What I did find last time around was pulling my foot up rather than pointing my toes alleviated the need to stretch without pain. Something about contracting my calf muscle sent it into spasm but gently stretching it worked wonders.

Bananas may be the secret! It may be coincidence but for the last week or so I've had a banana every day with my breakfast and thinking about it I haven't woken up with cramp for the past week or so.

I'll keep eating the bananas just in case they are the reason!!

Thanks so much everyone! It happened 2 nights ago and I'm still limping due to the pain. I was starting to think I had a blood clot or something!! 😂😂
I'll try the bananas! I also got some magnesium spray which I used last night. It's a bit sticky but smells of lavender, I slept really well Grin

I had this badly. As pp said pull your foot up rather than pointing your feet. I found standing up when it started stopped it straight away. I got it in Labour id had an epidural so couldn't move I cried Blush

Had this even prior to pregnancy. Eat bananas for the potassium and if it happens get out of bed and lightly bang your floor on the floor. Helps stretch if out
