I'm 18 weeks pregnant and for the past couple of weeks I have noticed when I go to the toilet there is a lot of undigested food. Yesterday this was pretty bad, but today I have been to the toilet and passed last nights entire meal with no digestion at all. Chips, the lot.

I also can't stop drinking, I'm so ridiculously thirsty which is unlike me. Nothing will quench it.

I've rung the antenatal ward and they said they don't know what it is but it could potentially be a sickness bug, in which case, I need to drink as much fluids as possible. they said if it's still happening tomorrow I have to go in.

Does anyone know what this is or what it's a symptom of, or why it could be happening?

I'd appreciate any advice at all.

TIA

that doesn't sound normal, and it doesn't really sound like a sickness bug. Are you ill at all?

I think you should see a doctor, and get a full check up.

camillathechicken · 08/12/2007 15:05

i agree with belgo, food passing through you that quick is not good... see doc as soon as you can as i don; tthink it is pregnancy related

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 15:05

Second Belgo, sounds pretty scary, do you feel unwell at all?

HayleyandRoo · 08/12/2007 15:08

I'm not ill at all. I feel fine for the first time in a while, so I told them it can't be a sickness bug but she said she can't think what else it would be (she being doctor on the phone, from antenatal ward).

My mum said she doesn't think it's pregnancy related either. I can't think what it would be?

phone your GP. (I don't know how much help NHS direct would be)

have you ever had anything like this before?

Do you feel particularly tired?

HayleyandRoo · 08/12/2007 15:13

I've not had anything like it before, but I have felt very tired the past few days, which i put down to being PG but maybe it's not.

I'll phone baycall as soon as I finish work.

I always get ill at weekends when the doctors are closed, it's typical.

Google isn't very scary about it actually, most of the hits are about people who have this occasionally as a normal thing, or maybe a food intolerance. One person said she was tested for C-difficile, but had no other symptoms and it was positive. Weird! So I wouldn't freak out just yet

Hope you get an answer to put your mind at rest.

I would say see a doctor today.

belgo · 08/12/2007 15:17

or at least speak to a doctor today.

HayleyandRoo · 08/12/2007 15:35

Thanks everyone.

Belgo- Thanks again, I will speak to a doctor today, because I'm so unsettled by it. Do you know what it could be a symptom of?

I tried googling but couldn't find anything for completely undigested food apart from colon cancer and stuff but I'm only 22.

I don't know what it could be - but stay away from google - it will never tell you anything good!!

I hope the doctor can reassure you - make sure you mention the tiredness and thirst as well.

HayleyandRoo · 08/12/2007 15:45

Ok, will do, I'll let you know what the doctor said. I'm worried about diabetes but I always assume the worst

Thanks

how are you Hayley?

finallypregnant · 09/12/2007 21:14

Hope you are ok.

HayleyandRoo · 10/12/2007 12:39

Hi everyone, sorry i didn't get back on yesterday. The doctor just said she's no idea what it is, other than digestion changes during pregnancy so could be that? She said to have some blood tests for my thyroid, so I'm doing a fasting blood test tomorrow morning. So I'm none the wiser really!! On the up side she took my BP and said that was ok but that's about the only comfort really!

Thanks everyone for your help, and if anyone has any ideas what it could be, please let me know, I'm happy to consider any advice or ideas. I'm going to try peppermint tea as apparently it's meant to be good for digestion.
