Hello. Im 16 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy. I'm a bit of a worrier and Iv noticed brown/yellow discharge when I wipe and sometimes on my underwear. Im worrying that something is wrong with baby. The first time I noticed it It was brown and I phoned the midwife and she said that it wasn't alarming and to keep an eye and then it never re appeared. Since then it's happened again but a yellow colour, I googled and it seemed to be normal (I don't trust google too much). Now it's more of a brown/ yellow in my underwear and when I wipe and I'm slightly concerned. I don't want to be a pain or cry wolf by phoning up triage to ask if I need to be worried but my brain is in overdrive and just wondered if anyone has experienced the same and if anyone would be able to give me some advice? I hope someone can help and that I'm just panicking.
As far as I can tell the discharge doesn't smell nasty.

Thanks so much Smile

Hi OP,

I would be that person who would need to get it checked out. Either through hospital or privately. Most of the time its nothing for sure it could be an irritated cervix and this is where yellow or brown spotting comes from, but in a small number of cases it could indicate an infection like bacterial vaginosis (BV) and it won't be picked up without a swab. Again most of the time Bv doesnt cause problems in pregnancy but can cause preterm labour in about 10% of cases

I've been having yellow discharge from the beginning. It has been really freaking me out because this is what I got before my previous 2 miscarriages. I went to the doctor and I got a swap and nothing was found. I asked at my recurrent miscarriage clinic and quite a few midwives and nobody finds it an issue. I also got some spotting and brown discharge at 16-18 weeks which made me completely paranoid. Again midwifes were not impressed and only said that if I fill a pad with blood within half an hour it was concerning. It must have been my cervix connected to having problems with my bowels (both constipated and diarrhea). Since it has gone back to yellow. I really don't think you need to worry but just get a swap just to make sure it's not an infection. At some GPs you can even pick up a kit and do it yourself in the toilet. Good luck!

Thank you both so much for replying. I will phone the gp on Monday and ask about it as I also need to somehow get this constipation under control...having ibs plus serious constipation is very uncomfortable. I've tried fybogel and it doesn't do much so here's hoping the dr can suggest something else! I'm sorry you miscarried that's what I'm scared of, which is why I'm so anxious about the coloured discharge or when I get a tender tummy which is probably bowel related, but still you freak out then feel silly for bothering the midwife because you are so worried. Sadhere's hoping it's nothing serious. Blush
