Low hcg

Hello,

clutching at straws here. I had my ivf pregnancy blood test on Monday, 9 days post frozen transfer. The nurse called that afternoon to say unfortunately my transfer wasn’t successful, my hcg is only 20 and I’ll be getting my period in the next few days. It’s now Saturday, no period, still testing positive.

I had 2nd bloods 48 hours later on weds - hcg up to 53 then again and then again 48 hours yesterday and it is on 100.

The numbers have doubled (yesterday slightly under but gp says it’s fine as it’s meant to be 48-72 hours for a double)

My ivf clinic have told me I’ll be having a miscarriage or ectopic and my gp seems to think it’s fine because it’s the doubling that matters.

Back tomorrow for more bloods and hoping it’s 200. Anyone had numbers this low? I kind of wish I didn’t know now.

Thank you!

How many weeks pregnant are you exactly? If it's doubling in line with how many weeks you are then its fine, but slow to double hcg is a sign of ectopic and miscarage, I'm not sure how long it takes for an ivf transfer to implant but with a natural conception it's normal for implantation to happen on day 7-12 so hcg would be around 20-30

Hi @Pesimistic thanks for your reply. 4 weeks and 6 days today.

20 on 4+1
53 on 4+3
100 on 4+5

I think the implantation can take as long in ivf. I understand once they have put the embryo in your uterus it’s up to your body to do the rest so the same process as natural conception from there on

It could have taken just a little bit longer for you to implant but your numbers are doubling quite normaly, at 4 weeks hcg can be any where from 5-400 and 5 weeks any where from 180-7000 so I'd wait and see what you get from your blood results but if it's doubling I see no reason to worry, if the ivf doctors don't know exactly when you implanted they can't say for sure if your going to miscarry, good luck I hope this one sticks for you.

@Pesimistic I think so too, I may have implanted later. I didn’t get a positive until 16dpo with my daughter. I can’t remember her hcg levels, I was quite oblivious to all of that being my first pregnancy. I know it was doubling but not sure if the numbers were low.

I did a clear blue digital today and it’s now moved to 2-3 weeks (from conception) It was 1-2 weeks (from conception) 2 days before.

Fingers crossed the results double tomorrow 🤞🥺

Clear blue needs 153 hcg to get to 2-3 weeks, but the tipping point for 3+ is 2700 so typically you won't get a 3+ till 5 weeks 3 days. I have everything crossed for your results 🤞🤞

I have no knowledge but am really hoping for the best for you. Xxx

@Pesimistic yeah I don’t think I’ll get that yet. My hcg has doubled again to 215. It’s doubling but it’s still low. Another blood test on Wednesday so hope it’s at 430+ by then. Really not sure what to think, time should tell by Sunday as it should be going info the thousands by then. I’ll do a scan to check the pregnancy location this week. Thanks for your comments!

update for anyone searching this topic: I have a cornual ectopic. The worst of the ectopic. I had methotrexate but it didn’t work so I am returning to the hospital (a week later) and they will directly inject the embryo with methotrexate. If that doesn’t stop the heartbeat they are going to do wedge resection surgery, I really want to avoid this but what needs to be done will be done. The baby will rupture my uterus soon if it’s not removed.
