Threatened miscarriage

Hi, has anyone had any positive outcome from a threatened miscarriage? I've been in hospital this week with a suspect ectopic due to abdominal pain and bleeding, which was ruled out with a scan. On the scan I saw the heartbeat and the nurses seemed positive.. although I was then told that I'm having a threatened miscarriage and should keep an eye on the amount of blood I'm loosing and if it should increase I'd need to inform the EPU as soon as possible.
The bleeding hasn't increased, nor the pain but I'm just feeling awful. I feel like I'm just waiting around to actually miscarry.

The only way I can describe it at the moment is feeling like im on my period and pregnant at the same time.

Has anyone had a successful pregnancy following this?

Thanks x

No helpful answer here with a positive experience but I'm in the same situation right now. Have had early scans with heartbeats already but started bleeding yesterday. Have been told it's a threatened miscarriage and will be rescanned next week. Feeling really in limbo and like I'm waiting to miscarry too. Just wanted to message you say I know how rubbish it is right now and also bump your thread a little in the hope someone will come along with a positive story! X

Saw this and had to come in to comment.
My threatened miscarriage has just home, complaining about the Year 10s he’s taught today.

I had really heavy bleeding and lost large clots at 11 weeks when pregnant with him. I was told that it was a threatened miscarriage and really thought that It was over.

I hope everything turns out well for you both.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 08/10/2021 20:19

I had three actual miscarriages and one threatened that turned out to be an ebullient and happy child - now 7!

Thelovelyflower · 08/10/2021 20:47

Yes - he has just started school. Hope it all works out for you too xx

victoria5895 · 08/10/2021 20:49

@toomuchchocolatenotenoughtime so sorry your in the same situation.. it's so difficult when you don't know what is going to happen! I'd wish my doctor could just tell me either way so I can prepare for both outcomes. We've already got one little boy and we pulled all his baby boxes out of the attic last week to see what could be salvaged for this one (too soon I know, but we were so excited). I'm not a fan of a waiting game! I hope your scan next week goes well! X

I'm actually 9+2 today too! Have only been bleeding since yesterday though so I feel for you having been bleeding almost a week! Have one DD who is 3 and had the easiest pregnancy with her. But this one has been so tough since the day I found out. I felt so anxious from the minute I found out too so trying so hard to tell myself this isn't my anxiety being justified x

Sleeplessem · 08/10/2021 20:56

Meeee! Threatened miscarriage is awful term, they use it for anyone who’s had any sort of bleeding in early pregnancy.

My threatened miscarriage is 2 and in bed from a long day at the safari park Smile

@victoria5895 not great. Bleeding ramped up again this morning but just taking it easy today. How are you doing today? X

Lillygolightly · 09/10/2021 16:23

I had 3 smooth and healthy pregnancies with no bleeding, I then had a loss at 18 weeks….pink spotting being the first sign.

I’m now pregnant with twins, I found out at 6+5 at a scan at the EPU to investigate spotting which I thought was to do with my previous loss. Spotting continued until 8 weeks when I had a huge gush of blood, it was so much I really thought I had just wet myself until I realised it was blood. I was absolutely sure I had lost one or both babies, that bleed continued for 3/4 days, a scan 4 days after the big gush showed both babies having grown just like they should and with heartbeats. I cried a river in the scan room and felt such huge relief they were ok. 2 weeks later at 10 weeks I had yet another bleed, not as big as the first one but blood all the same. I was lucky to be seen the following morning at the EPU and again both babies were there and doing fine. At each scan no reason for the the spotting or bleeding could ever be seen, it was so unnerving to be having bleeding and not knowing why.

I am now 30 weeks and still check every single time I wipe and I often have to pinch myself that I’m still pregnant, I am also still very nervous and fearful of something going wrong. I still haven’t bought a single baby item, I’m too scared just in case.

Bleeding doesn’t always mean the worst, the sad thing is is that it can be a completely normal symptom of pregnancy and it can also be a symptom of miscarriage. It’s very confusing and upsetting but I’m wishing you both the best and hope that your little beans hold on.

victoria5895 · 10/10/2021 15:37

@toomuchchocolatenotenoughtime are you in any pain with it?

I got out of the house today to watch my son play rugby, fresh air has definitely helped.

My bleeding is very intermittent, I'll go a couple of hours with a dry pad then all of a sudden it's like a full on period. I spoke with my midwife today and she's just given me the 'what will be will be' - 'your scan will give us everything we need to know'. I'm feeling really let down and fed up. I know there isn't anything I can do to help it stick but it's just the waiting that driving me insane.

@Lillygolightly wow congratulations! That's amazing your 30 weeks! And twins, how lovely!

It's so stressful isn't it, but not long until they'll be here! Hope the rest of your few weeks left go smoothly 🤞🏻 xx

@victoria5895 wasn't in any pain but had a little cramping. Been seen this morning and baby is fine. The sonographer could see a collection of blood and said to expect more bleeding. I've now got my booking in appointment and hopefully I'll get some more reassurance from the midwife. Ive been told to just keep calling and come back every time I have more bleeding but that doesn't seem realistic. How long should we expect this to go on for? When is your scan? Hope you're feeling okay today x

Kittyb22 · 11/10/2021 13:05

Hello ladies, I do hope you don't mind me gatecrashing this thread. I'm 6w pregnant (first pregnancy) and have been bleeding for 2 days with dull but continuous "cramps". I have been in touch with the early pregnancy unit and have been booked in for a scan on Wednesday. It feels a long time away. I was so grateful to spot your post as it's easy to feel quite alone at times like this and especially lovely to see the positive stories.. wishing you all the best @victoria5895 & @toomuchchocolatenotenoughtime xx

Kittyb22 · 11/10/2021 14:15

@toomuchchocolatenotenoughtime just saw your update. How lovely that the sonographer told you that the baby was fine and I have my fingers crossed that your appointment with the mid-wife comes quickly and she offers more help for you.

@victoria5895 I am sending you lots of "sticking" vibes, the waiting and feeling of helplessness is awful isn't it.

@Lillygolightly oh wow how wonderful 30 weeks.. and twins!!.. wishing you all the very best for the next couple of weeks.

PiggyBean · 11/10/2021 16:04

I've had bleeding and cramping the past few days, have a scan booked in with the EPU tomorrow. Just very worried about what the outcome will be.

Kittyb22 · 11/10/2021 17:58

Aww @PiggyBean I know how you feel, I wish you all the best for tomorrow xx

PiggyBean · 11/10/2021 21:57

@Kittyb22 thank you, hope your scan goes well too! Fingers crossed x

victoria5895 · 15/10/2021 12:48

@Kittyb22 hey, how did your scan go?

@toomuchchocolatenotenoughtime how are you feeling? Anymore pain/bleeding?

I've just had my 12 week scan date through, so hopefully I'll have a bit more reassurance from that! Still bleeding but I'm not in as much pain anymore

Hope you're all feeling okay! X

Hi @victoria5895, I'm afraid it wasn't good news.. It was confirmed that I am having a miscarriage. Absolutely devastated but I'm just clinging on to the fact that after a year of trying that I actually got pregnant so it could happen again. I am so glad to hear that you're not in so much pain and that your reassurance scan went well. I'm sending you lots and lots of baby dust x

PiggyBean · 15/10/2021 20:53

@Kittyb22 so sorry to hear that. No positive news for me either, I've also miscarried 🥺

StampOnTheGround · 15/10/2021 21:05

Sorry @Kittyb22 @PiggyBean for your losses ☹️

Came across this thread and thought I'd share my positive outcome. I had 3 big bleeds one at 7 weeks, then just over 8 weeks and then a few days later - the final one included a massive clot, I was convinced everything had come out. After each bleed I had a scan and each time baby was there completely fine, no reason for the bleeds!

I'm now 14 and a half weeks pregnant and have had no other bleeds (so far) but they did say it might happen again.

I think the main thing I've realised is that I didn't have any cramping with any of bleeds.

Hope everything goes okay for the rest of you!

Hi,

I’ve been through this and my son is now 5 months old. I began bleeding at 13 weeks, days after a perfectly normal 12 week scan. The only way I can describe the bleeding is like water flooding out although it was blood. I’ve never experienced anything like it. The doctor who scanned me that night told me that the baby was fine but it could go either way and to keep an eye on it.
I bled on and off for the rest of the pregnancy, which was an extremely upsetting and anxious time. I was induced at 38 weeks because of the “unexplained bleeding” as the doctor called it but my son is perfectly healthy and happy.
Sending lots of love, I know how hard it is x
