For all the ladies who have given birth, can you reassure me?! Husband and I are thinking about TTC in the next few cycles, but the ONLY thing holding me back is fear or pregnancy discomfort and fear of childbirth and postpartum pain. I am very much looking forward to parenting but I'm just worried I'm too much of a wimp for pregnancy and childbirth. I don't handle pain very well and process it by externalizing. My husband is the opposite the suffer in silence type and is often irritated with the fact that I'm crying or complaining about my pain. Would love to hear from someone who has similar issues with pain and was able to manage childbirth. Thank you!

I have a low pain threshold and have 2 children.

I don't do pregnancy very well - had SPD (Symphysis Pubic Disorder) both times which was probably the worst part, developed travel sickness, vomitted from 4 weeks to birth with #2 and was hospitalised worth chronic constipation and dehydration at one point which required an enema and a drip... #1 was 12 hours of contractions ending in a in an emergency section and #2 was an elective.

It all sounds horrific but it wouldn't put me off having another because it was all pretty much over and done with within 10 months each time, you'd be surprised how much your body adapts and what you can do knowing that it's temporary!

You can discuss an elective section worth your midwife from the start so that you can put aside your worries about childbirth. It's not the easy option by any means but if it's the actual labour/pushing part that scares you then it may put you at ease.
