How long did you have to wait for your induction?

So I was on the induction list for yesterday due to RFM. They called me yesterday afternoon to let me know that they had a high volume of inductions booked for that day and that there were 10 women taking priority over me but that they had scheduled me a scan and a CTG. I was told that it would more than likely be today, but I've just called and they said that they are still working on the back log and that there is a few more women ahead of me still. It wouldn't bother me, I would be quite happy with the daily CTG's but I was pushed by the doctor into having an induction and as a result my parter has taken his paternity so it's stressing me out now that if they don't induce me soon that he will be wasting his time off before the baby is even hereSad.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar? And if so how long did you have to wait?

Is there any way your partner can go back to work for a couple of days? Just that induction could easily take three or more days plus a couple of days in hospital postnatally? You don’t usually really need him for the first day of the induction either. Have you had any sweeps?

There’s no way you should wait any longer if movements aren’t back to normal though.

I came in on Friday night to be induced - my original appointment was Friday morning. They were so busy in hospital that they didn’t start the process until 10am on Sunday. I’m still here having made no progress past 1cm!

I would say it’s better to be at home than hanging around hospital if they’re really busy. You’re likely to be bumped down a list if waiting for induction as you’re not a medical priority if they’re monitoring you.

No he can't, I asked him that myself😫. I need him to be available to take me to and from the hospital though, and with them wanting at least 48 hours notice he wouldn't be able to do that if he wasn't on paternity. Taxi's would be £20 each way and we just can't justify that. Yeah I've had 1 sweep, doesn't seem to have done much or anything though😫

I would try and enjoy this time together then, lots of relaxing/ gentle exercise/ nice food before the induction starts tomorrow, honestly you’ll look back on it fondly! Investigate parental leave to add a few days on to his paternity leave at the end on at the end and ring the hospital for an update this evening. Good luck!

Be prepared that even when they start the induction it can take a while. With my first I went in on a Wednesday morning and gave birth that Saturday. It can be a long process. I was induced, but they delayed the next steps (the drop) for 2 days due to no from on the delivery suite.

*drip not drop!

When they do induce you it could take ages for things to get going anyway. I was induced for RFM on a Tuesday and didn't deliver until the following Monday. The longest 6 days of my life!

Strawberryblondee · 06/10/2021 02:56

I knew it could take a while, that's why I'm getting so edgy about them delaying the process, because it could potentially take days to go into active labour😫

Kind of beside the point, but can your partner's work require 48 hours notice for pat leave? It just doesn't sound practical - if someone went into spontaneous labour they can't hold on for 48 hours until their partner can start paternity leave, leave would just start immediately.

Anyway, I don't have any useful advice for you, but hope they don't keep you waiting much longer x

Mine was fairly swift. They called me at 8am to come down for 11am then pessary was inserted at 2pm.
