I lost my mucus plug and I have dull back pains, I'm 34+2 weeks pregnant

Last week, when I was 33 weeks pregnant, my baby suddenly dropped a lot, she engaged. I've been feeling pressure and cramps around my pelvis since then. Now I'm noticing constant dull lower back pain, and the pain has moved to my pelvis too. Last night I noticed my plug discharged, and I'm also having a lot of bowel movements. I feel so restless, last night I packed my bag at 1 am...I'm 34+2 weeks pregnant at the moment and I'm worried I'm going to go into preterm labor soon. Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, did you manage to get to full term, or did you give birth to a preterm baby? My midwife won't reply to me and when I call the hospital they just tell me to take pain killers and wait for signs of imminent labor...

Keep ringing the midwife. If she's based at the doctors ring them. If not ring 111. If you were term I'd probably say sit tight but as baby would be premature I wouldn't wait too long.

Call the hospital back and make them see you, you are not term and baby would need steroids if born now at 34 weeks

Keep ringing the hospital call triage the info you have been given us wrong as your not term.

My midwife called a short time after I posted this thread and told me to call the hospital and demand to be seen. I called and the hospital told me they would call me back, they haven't yet. So I called back myself, but they hang out on me when I was in the queue several times... The NHS is such a poor public service seriously. I'm waiting now for my husband to arrive and we'll head to the hospital. I'll keep updates.

Good luck.

I couldn’t get hold of my hospital or midwife yesterday. I was cut off 3 times after waiting for half an hour each time - I just went in in the end and presented at the maternity assessment unit. I’d suggest you do the same. @CelticFay

Try not to panic. Get to hospital as soon as you can and demand to be checked out.

To share my experience. I had DS at 30 weeks after a 6 hour labour, PPROM. We spent 10 weeks in hospital, he had lots of respiratory issues (I only had 1 lot of steroids).

I had DD at 33+6, I had a 17 hour labour and both lots of steroids. We had 12 days in hospital and she's been absolutely fine since.

Steroids massively help lung development. Every single day after 30 weeks counts. DD had 2 days on oxygen, unlike DS who had it for 5 months.

Both babies were fine. It's scary at the time but trust your body and don't take no for an answer! Thanks

Sorry for not updating before, kept forgetting. Everything is normal and there was no sign of labour, I'm 35+2 now. If you happen to go through a similar situation have it checked to be sure but it doesn't necessarily mean anything :)

Glad it was fine for you 😀 I lost my mucus plug at 28 weeks and at 38 I’m still waiting for labour so indeed, these things happen …
