8 weeks pregnant - could I have a UTI?

Hi there,

This is my second pregnancy and I don’t remember having such bladder discomfort this early on with my first pregnancy. Basically I constantly feel a discomfort, like I need to wee, even when I just have. I’m wondering if it could be a UTI but I’ve never experienced one personally so have nothing to compare it to? I’m not in any pain, just feel constantly uncomfortable and hoping I don’t have another 32+ weeks of feeling like this 😢

You could have, I have had 2 during this pregnancy although they were both asymptomatic. I never had one before this. Its worthwhile getting your urine checked at the GP just in case.

But urinary frequency is also just a common first trimester symptom, usually eases off in the second trimester and comes back in 3rd trimester.

Definitely get checked out for a UTI. I had UTI's repeatedly before pregnancy and they always had very specific symptoms but I got a UTI in my first trimester that had none of the usual symptoms, except needing to pee frequently yet finding little relief from the general discomfort when I did, but as pp said that can be easily mistaken for just the increased need to pee that comes with being pregnant! Apparently it's not uncommon in pregnancy to have UTI's without usual symptoms & I had a course of antibiotics that I'm not convinced has fully gotten rid of it yet.

UTI are so common in pregnancy. I always felt the urge to wee in pregnancy. But I'd get told to drink water and lots of it too. So I was just weeing a d weeing from day 1 lol. U can get it checked out if the symptoms are there tho. I used to get asked does it burn when u wee and it never did so they didn't put it down as a UTI.

You could, I had one with my first that was picked up via my booking urine sample (I was asymptomatic, short course of antibiotics zapped it). Definitely worth a GP contact if you've not got a routine date with a wee wee pot coming up soon even if just to rule it out.
