30 weeks -Am I leaking urine or waters? sorry if TMI

This is my second pg and I am 30 weeks. Have been noticing a lot more moisture down there of late. No obvious gush of fluid but more like a small but continous leak and there was actually a small wet smear on a plastic chair I had sat on today and yesturday (at home thank god).
I leaked a little urine here and there right at the very end of my first pg when I coughed or laughed, but had a c-section so my pelvic floor is still in great shape.
I am concerned I might be leaking waters. My waters broke the first time with a massive gush prelabour but full term +7 and it was really obvious what it was, but this I am very unsure about.
Anyone else had experience of this?

you need to wear a pad and maybe umm smell it . urine has a distinctive smell.

FAWKEOFFwiththetinsel · 07/12/2007 15:57

i think the best thing for you to do is to put a pad in your knickers, when you notice that it has become damp then sniff it to see what it smells of x

ah the joy of mumsnet - only place in cyberspace you can encourage strangers to sniff their pants.

ok, ok, there are prob other knicker sniffing sites out there -- but none endorsed by the PM and archbishops!

This has made me chuckle- I'll put a pad on and get sniffing

if you suspect it may be your waters you need to speak to a midwife. There is a simple test they can do to check what it is.

If it is urine, you really need to do lots of pelvic floor exercises.

camillathechicken · 07/12/2007 16:58

pad sniffing is the way to go !!

also, you can stop the flow of urine but not amniotic fluid

bear in mind you get an increase in discharge later in pregnancy which can lead to dampness.

if in any doubt at all, you can get checked out

if your forewaters go , they go with a gush, a small hindwater leak is more like a little drip.. and it wil reseal and repelenish

waters can be pink or straw coloured or light.

Im 29+6w and have had this problem for about a week now. My midwife sent me to the fetal assesment unit on Monday to get checked out as she wasnt too sure what it was. Turns ous that babs head is way down and pressing on my bladder. Therefor im leaking urine without even knowing . Its always best to get checked out just in case x

waters smell like semen

wee smells like, well wee.......

if in any doubt, get it checked though

Taichimum - just thought I'd add that my mw said it doesn't really matter how you gave birth last time - you still spent nine months with baby, placenta and amniotic fluid weighing down on your pelvic floor and that is far more important! Obviously giving birth vaginally (is that the correct term?) does't help, but the whole pregnancy will still have had a very significant effect on your pelvic floor muscles.
