Hand foot and mouth

Just a quick one.
I’m 38+4.

DC school class has had 4 cases of hand foot and mouth. Over the weekend DC very close friend has also acquired it so the 5th child, he sits next to the boy all day and they are reception so not distancing at all as too young.
Best friend is off today but is back at school tomorrow as the school and doctors have said it’s not required to keep them off. He was unwell but now feels fine however still has the blisters. H

Should I be worried about this at this late stage of pregnancy?
I’m unsure if DC needs to be kept off school for a few days just incase or whether it’s just one of those things Confused

Just inform your midwife as if you catch it this late on, little one could be born with a mild case of it. Nothing to worry about though - it's serious at the beginning because the temperature could cause a miscarriage in the first trimester. X

My son had HFM two weeks ago and I am 7+4 weeks pregnant - didn't catch it from him thankfully. I think you need to be cautious in the 3rd trimester so worth letting your midwife know if your son does get it.

I was constantly washing my hands, washing the clothes/bedding, not touching my face and no kisses. You'll be ok x

I caught it when I was pregnant with DC2. I was 11 weeks pregnant. It wasn’t especially pleasant but it passed quickly and I (and the baby) are fine.

Thankyou everyone Smile

I couldn’t decide if I needed to keep DC off school for a few days just incase he catches it and passes it to the newborn if I ever give birth Blush the NHS wasn’t too clear but I’ll ask my midwife just incase!

I think it would be just what you feel most comfortable with. My toddler has just had hand foot and mouth, thankfully only very mild. I’m 38 weeks pregnant and haven’t caught neither has hubby. I know the nursery has a policy of letting them in as they don’t seem it bad and they said there’s no way to tell when or for how long they were contagious so I kept my son off of course just more so that he didn’t spread it. I guess it’s one of those things if your son was sat near them last week he could still come out later in the week either way, hopefully he’s missed it though.
